Tweak It 3

Just for fun, this shot could use some work. This photo was donated by Stacey Martin. It’s a barn that her grandfather and great-grandfather built in the early 1900’s.

What I'd like to see is for members use this photo to manipulate, Photoshop it to death or just basic editing to make it better.

You will find a copy of the image in my pbase gallery and all you need to do to play with this photo is right click and copy it to your hard drive. Then, when you're done post it here.

Please record the steps you take and the software you use so we can all learn from others. I will post my version later in the discussion.

Remember you must be fully signed into BP with your email address & password for uploads to work. No photo ID option.

Looking forward to seeing what you all can do with this image! Previous images are still available at this gallery for “tweaking” as well.

Please, if you don't enjoy Photoshop pass on this thread. We are not looking to debate the age old argument as to whether it's a mortal sin to manipulate a photo.

Here's what I did.

I added an infrared filter and offset blur to get this look...

  Love that sunset treatment, Sharon!
Saw the original shot, and thought: "You're what?! Tin Roof... Rusted!" -B52's 'Love Shack'

This rework: Significant crop, then upsized resulting image about 140%. Slight overall Unsharp. Selected roof only, adjusted R, Y saturation on rust. Select Inverse of that, desaturated all color. Extreme Unsharp Mask on all but roof (500%) Filled sky with pale blue, barn/shrubs white areas with a tan coloring. The rust was my favorite part of the original image, and I wanted a weedwacker for the rest!

Dunno why I didn't think to add this the first time... A little faded "Mail Pouch" tobacco advertisement on the roof ;)

I used PhotoShop add on filter - xero/lineart - then bumped saturation up a bit. Used PaintShopPro to clarify about 4 times, then back in PS I darkened the sky and added some blue - then I used xero/soft mood (just a tiny bit, and radiance a tiny bit). I topped it off with slight burn tool used on roof and the vines.

This is fun, I used PSE 3.0, desaturated, added clouds, did a bit of a crop, used Optikverve snap and fall colors filters. Buzzed and used a touch of warming filter.
Had to postpone our Florida vacation until tomorrow due to bad weather and icy roads.

Had fun with it too! Used fall colors, different clouds, aetherize, saturation, added some fog and then...I forgot, but there were a few more effects from Xero and Harry's Filters :).

I used CS2. I changed the contrast and cropped it. I changed it to black and white. I selected the sky then added clouds from the filter in a different layer. Reduced the exposure of that layer. Then changed the colour using replace colour.

Here's my version of Stacey's barn. I think it makes the photo more dramatic...
I used Alien Skin Exposure, Digital Film 2.0, Texture Anarchy (Edge Anarchy)and Chromma Photographic Filters.
I need to play with the other plugins to see if I can do something better.
Thanks Sharon for this thread and to all the people who lend their photos to make them, and of course, the ones that let us see what they can do with them.

Cool treatment, Jorge! I'd love to have some plugins but the ones I want are so expensive. If I could have any I wanted I'd get AutoFX Tint, Tone & Color and Mystical Lights.

That's a problem, everything it's so expensive, so we need to work with the things we have.
Personally I don't like to use plug-ins so much, as you can see most of my photos are unmodified, but I like to play with photoshop and other graphic programs (in this moments Maya takes a big part of my free time).
I didn't know that AutoFx plug-ins, but as i'm a curious person I wanted to see the price and as you say, they are pretty expensive.
But photoshop and it's plug-ins are wonderful because someone with little experience like me, can modify photos without knowing that much.
Thanks for your comments and good luck with the plug-ins, I hope soon you can have the ones you want, but also don't take the abscense of them as a limit but as a challenge.
