Computer Nerds Save Me!

All of a sudden as of yesterday morning, I'm unable to upload a Tiff file to my website. JPG's go through fine, but as soon as I try to upload a Tiff (no they are not too big), the little computer icons in the task bar go black and I get that "this page cannot be found" page. I don't have a clue what the problem could be, so I'm asking for some help. Any ideas?

are you uploading tiffs to the galleries here? Why are you uploading tiffs to the web anyway? I dont think it matters as web pictures get compressed anyway. Jpegs are fine.. I only save as tiffs for archiving but for web, jpegs are perfect.
just an idea, maybe someone else can be of more assistance.

Yes, I always do tiffs..They seem to look less muddy. I can live with the JPGs if I have to, but I still would like to know what the heck happened. Everything was just fine til yesterday morning. And I'm totally helpless when something goes wrong. No computer knowledge at ALL!

  I upload .tif's also.
There's less "loss" when BP re-formats and re-sizes.
They take longer to go through than .jpg but they usually go through OK.

If you are uploading multiple images, like to a Gallery or Website, .tif's will go through better one at a time than in batches.

I'm just doing one at a time for contest entry. I can't imagine what it could be.

Carolyn, I just uploaded a TIFF in to the contest, no problem. I use the Old Method, and size my file at 480 on the short side.

Wonky things happen on the BP site now and then, and IIRC, the site was down for a while yesterday AM. Then I'm old, and could be wrong!

I use the old method also (don't understand the new one) and haven't been able to get one through all of yesterday and today so far. The size of mine is just fine. Maybe it's the "old" that's my problem. I have a bad case of that, too. LOL

Just thought of something -- I had a problem uploading a TIFF once, and it turned out the file had a layer I'd forgotten to remove (a note in PS). If it's that, it's sure easy to fix!

I don't do much layering. I've tried 3 different files and none of them work. I've just emailed it to Heather and they are going to try it from BP.

Ok everybody, here's what happened! Heather tried to upload and what appeared was a white box with a swirly black thing in the center. While we were scratching our heads over that, I'd been chatting with Murry Grigsby about what might be wrong, so I had him go into my gallery and take a look. Then I e-mailed him a copy of the shot and it went to him okay. SO...what we ended up doing was simply resaving the file under a new name. It went right through! So for future dummies, there is something you can try! Now we can shut this discussion down and go do something fun!
