Photography Question

studio photography

Recently a friend of mine asked me to do a photo shoot for her online store that she is starting up. Basically some shots of models wearing her clothes. I have never actually shot in a studio or anything like that, so I was wonderin if I could get some help as to what I need as far as lighting. She has the backdrop all picked out already, its a medium gray with some darker streaks thru out its quite nice. I know I can do it and have the technical know how to do it, its the actual hands experience I dont have. Normally I would have said no but I felt if I am goin to be photogtrapher I need to take a step and challenge myself. Any insight would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

You're going to need space! lots of it if you plan to do full body standing shots...
Model should be at least 6 feet from backdrop - and you should be at least 6 feet from model...
You'll need some light! If you can set up across from some big bright full length windows you'll be in heaven. But good luck finding that in a room that's big enough for you... There is of course the great outdoors - on a slightly overcast day - it's perfect... Hang the backdrop from something (do you have a stand for it?) Of course if you live somewhere like Montreal - no one is shooting outdoors !!!
Give us a little more info about what conditions you'll be shooting under...
And if you have a budget or time to beg/borrow or steal some lighting...

Thanks for the insight so far. I do havea lots of space !!! I realized that right off the bat, a friend of mine has a large loft we will be using, there isnt really a whole lot of natural light that I can utilize(small windows all the way around), I thought of that also, unfortunately not so much. I have looked around and spoke with local studios and photographers about renting or loaning soemlighting equipment but.....yeah....so I need to go to an outlet and rent from a store I have found several. most of the packages are two stands and umbrellas with all the gear for about 200 bucks for the weekend. I do have a backdrop stand and plenty of back drop. my perspective client would like to should by the first weekend in march, they are understandable and could go for the second weekend bbut I think all I really need to know for sure is like what kind of lightini might need. the area is quite light for being inside walls are medium tan color and some white to reflect light aound the space. there are wnindows but not much for lighting the backdrop area.
