35 MM Film SLR lens compatibility with Digital

I do own Pentax ZX-50QD camera, for which I purchased Tamron 28-300(Model:28-300,3.5-6.3 XR LD IF) lens around 2 years back. Now I wish to purchase Pentax 1st DL (Digital SLR camera); Can I use the owning Tamron 28-300 SLR film lens for my future Pentax Digital SLR camer( Model:Pentax 1st DL).

I went thru Pentax website, but I could't understand; Need your's help before purchasing expensive Digital SLR camera; positively this save lot of money on buying expensive Lens too.

Any lens (Pentax, Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, etc.) that you used on your ZX-50 will work on the Pentax Digital SLRs. The *stDL uses the same autofocus K-mount lenses (KAF). In addition, Pentax has a new line of "DA" lenses designed for the digital sensor which is smaller than the 35mm film frame. Similarly, Sigma (DC), Tamron (Di II), and Tokina (DX) make lenses in the autofocus K-mount that are designed for use on the smaller sensor.

Older manual focus K-mount lenses may also be used, but with some limitations.

  Thanks Jon,

So you mean using DA lens or my currently owned lens will not have difference in Image quality?

If yes, I will buy camera with DA lens or else will buy only Digital SLR body only.

I appreciate your suggestion.

There is no inherent difference in image quality between DA lenses and your current lens. The *istDL has a sensor smaller than 35mm film frame, so it captures a narrower angle of view from your 28-300 lens than does your ZX-50. On your ZX-50 the 28mm setting on the zoom is fairly wide angle, giving 75° wide angle of view. That 28mm setting when mounted on the *istDL will give a narrower 54° wide view. To get the 75° view you're used to, you need an 18mm lens on the *istDL. The DA design (DC/DiII/DX in Sigma/Tamron/Tokina) makes it easier and more economical to make such short focal lenght lenses.

  Jon, information makes me satisfied.

Though my current lens makes a narrower view and it's just that want to make use my lens for more time and then probably look for DA lens.

Thanks a ton;have a good day!!
