What do you do?

How many pages of a gallery do you browse when viewing a member's premium gallery? I've heard members say they don't go past the first couple of pages. Just curious. Thanks!

  Hi Sharon,
I usually look at the first 2 or 3 pages. In my gallery I only display around 100 of my photos, which is 4 pages. I think it is just too overwhelming to look at more than that.
Also my gallery is arranged so that the photo I put into the contest on any given day is the the first one in my gallery.

I also only look at the first few pages. If there's some stuff that I really like, I may look at more though. So if you put anything past the 3rd or 4th page, chances are that most people won't see it.

Me too. When it's the first time I visit someone's gallery, I rarely browse any further than the first three pages because I think that more or less gives you an idea of what that photographer does. However, if I find something I really like or find interesting, I may see all of them. Deb's idea is good; I think most of us want to see the latest work someone has uploaded, so knowing that the first photo you see is their latest entry helps a lot. One thing I don't like is when the photographer has chosen the "large image option" and not the thumbnail layout when designing their gallery. I think it's good to be able to see the thumbnails and then go and enlarge the ones you like.

If it is someone's gallery that I visit regularly, usually the first page (or first two pages if it has been a while). If it is a new gallery, I usually go through all the pages.

Thanks, Deb, Brenda, Cesar and Tammy! My gallery is large and difficult to manage now that I'm on dialup. If people do not generally view much of it I'd just as soon eliminate all but 3 or 4 pages.

Ditto to most of the above. For me it depends on the gallery. If the work is really inspiring or I'm just in awe of the work I will go through the whole gallery. But usually I will take the first 3 or 4 pages. I have kept my own gallery at 3 pages for a long time though soon I might "expand" to 4 pages.

If I love what I see, I go through every photo. If I don't like it, I usually don't get past the first page.

Hi Sharon I usually look at the first two pages of a gallery. IF the images are exceptional than I may go to the third page.

I personally keep up my current entries and finalist than when the contest winners are announced I take off the previous months entries and leave up the current ones and finalists. So I try and clean up my gallery so I just have current entries up.

This way I feel it stays fresh.

Kerby

  Hello Sharon,

With all your photos, you might consider the Deluxe Web site; this way you can arrange your photos in folders and/or by theme.

I've considered doing this with some of my "Better Photos" (pun intended), but I'm not all too satisfied with the way this site reduces the resolution of our photos.

All the Best,

Pete

If I have been there recently.. Only the top few images...lol But I make it a goal to go to 2 new galleries a week.. Two I have never been to and comment on a couple of their images.. Especailly the new members.. The ones that don't get many, if ANY comments.. It can really help with moral.. But there are a few galleries on BP I can't get enough of.. I go back again and again.. To be inspired.. Like yours Sharon.. If I find their work to my liking or I love their style.. It's not unlikely for me to go to the very last page and comment on several.. Just depends on the time I have and what gallery I am in..

I usually only look past the first two pages. Rarely I will look at an entire gallery. The first two pages (I assume) are the photographer's most recent work (unless otherwise noted). Since I'm always learning, my first photos reflect that. So, I consider the first pics a good indication of what kind of photos the photographer is currently taking. If I like them, I will plan to return in the future.

I look at the first couple unless it is someone new to me then I may go more. With someone that is new to me I also check the "about" feature and maybe the contact one also. It is like meeting a new friend and I want to know more about them as a person and a place.

When I look at a gallery, nine times out of ten, I'm looking to see what the person looks like and where they are from. And very rarely does anybody give that info. I might look at a few shots, or in some cases, all of them, but my usual reason for going there is to see where they live. SO TELL ME, FOLKS!!

Hi Carolyn, I took that info down when a certain sorehead that disagreed with me on something started asking questions about me in email behind my back. BP is a fun place with many great members. For the most part I tend to forget it's still the internet with whackos wandering around. It never hurts to keep that in mind though. This may be why not everyone posts their location.

  lol,i agree Carolyn!

I usually go through galleries were someone has posted a image that strikes me or a comment. In that case I try to go through the whole gallery, and with some like kerby, kerry , justin, Brenden and yours Sharon to name a few- I go back to see what they are playing with : Kerry cracks me up, so any new images always are a intreset-Justin, just got his lights so I check in to see him experiment with light. And then with Kerby and others, I stop by to get a glimps into this talent and life, it gives you a way of just knowing that person and what may be thier days just little.
So many intresting people in a place like this.

More often than not, I look at the first three pages, and if really intrigued, the whole gallery. Thanks to those who put their new images on the first page!

My gallery's organized that way, followed by the medals, after which there be chaos. My deluxe website has a lot more stuff on it, but it's organized by categories so a visitor can go directly to what interests them.

I have been known to look at all pages of a gallery...but not too often...usually the first couple of pages. I, like many others, keep going back to galleries that inspire me.

Carolyn, I just added a pic of me on my about page about a week ago. Not sure if anyone ever looks at it, but itn's there. I don't have where I live...but I'm just north of Chicago.

Sharon, I do have both a premium and deluxe web site. With dial up, it would be extremly hard to maintain both. If you are like me, you end up re-ordering your shots. I've even tried to put my premium gallery in an order of subjects...but I think I only recognize that!

Thanks for all the input! Jay, thanks for the kudos on the "photo-markers." I can't lay claim to them being an original idea. I have seen other members divide up their galleries in a similiar fashion. It's helpful when the gallery owner gives page numbers as well. I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

Mostly I look at the first two or three pages of a new gallery, if I like the work very much, then I will browse through the whole gallery.
And I do love your markers, Sharon!! :)

I think if people, in their little blurb you get to put on the gallery, would just say something to the effect of "I live in the middle of Texas" or anything of the sort, I'd be happy as a clam. LOL..Just the state is usually enough..If I want to know more, there's always e-mail.

I look through the first page, sometimes more depending on how long I am allowed to ignore the family and stay on the computer! I do bookmark the ones I like best though.

ps, I live in Jersey, in the channel islands..... I also look for the location! anyone from the channel islands on here??

  I don't go gallery hopping.
It usually depends on the mini-pic by a name whether I go further.
And I guess I should put something in my bio.

Hi Rachel, I was so excited when you said you live in Jersey. But wait, what do you mean channel islands? Anyway, I live in NEW Jersey, U.S.

When I look at other photographer's gallery, I want to know not only where the photographer is from, but also where he/she has been to. I love nature and travel photography so I am constantly looking for new places to go or things I have missed for the places I have been to.

"but also where he/she has been to"

That is a good idea Andy! I don't mind giving out that info. BTW, I've been to 48 states and Canada. My husband and I have probably logged over 1,000,000 miles since 1988. I think it's safe to say I'm well traveled LOL.

What I mean is to find out where the photographer resides/been to from the photos they posted in the gallery. If the photos look great, then I will want to visit that place.

Sharon, I am just wondering which 2 states you haven't visited yet. I have visited about 20 states. I wanted so bad to visit Montana and Colorado.

Andy, I haven't been to Hawaii or Alaska. Montana's Glacier National Park is still on my list of places I'd like to see as well as the coastal highway in California and Oregon. East, we've only been to the Smokey Mountain NP and some of the National seashores. Out west we've been to Yellowstone, Rocky Mnt NP, Tetons, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Arches, Colorado National Monument, Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest so there's still a lot places I'd enjoy visiting. All of the states have beauty in their own way. I even like flat Kansas only it's not all flat as some people imagine. Illinois rivals Kansas for flatness. I could go on and on LOL.

  Sharon and Andy,
I want to chime in and say, I am NOT well traveled at all and envy all of you that can. Your gallery meen a lot to someone who has not had that privalage YET! I will!
but of the places I have been, I loved DC. but I would ask you to move
Montana's Glacier National Park to the very top of your list.
I had the chance to live there in Kalispell for a bit and have SOOO many film shot of the Park.
I went to the park every day while there at some hour of the day and it was truely the most beautiful plase to be.Go ALL the way to the top of "Going to the Sun Road" and if possible take the Horse paking trip.
the night before I had to leave MT, I woke up in my sleep 4 times cring. The Beauty there is PROFOUND.

Wishing you the best in that trip.

Margie, Illinois has some nice hills in the southern part of the state. It's beautiful there as well. I live in Missouri and once when I was in Oregon I had a resident tell me how flat and boring Missouri is so it's just a matter of perspective. I don't find Missouri all that flat either.

Rachel. Thank you for the information. I visited Paris in 1997, my very first foreign country ever visited. On the same trip I visited London also. Lovely cities.

Debby and Sharon, I think I am living in the best part of the US. We have hilly north, swampy south and flat in the middle. LOL. But NO national park. ;(

I mostly look in 1 or 2 pages but if it is someone I really like I will look at all the pages. I do not view Deluxe gallery for I find them to be a pain. I like the way the Premium gallery are set up. I would only have a Deluxe gallery if I was sell my work. Oh yes if a persons gallery shows photo from a different country I will also look at the whole gallery. :o)
