Photography Question

Paul Vaartjes

Young Photographers

not sure where to put this question either...

I'm Paul and I'm very nearly 14. I'm interested in photography, and have taken quite a few photos, but havent sold any or done anything professional with any of them.

I'm just wondering if there's more 'young' photographers around my age and what you've accomplished/done with your photo's, what camera you use etc. Respond here if you are around this age.

Loking forward to hearing from you.
Paul

Thanks, Nobi. That's the one I meant to post. Don't know what happened.

Paul, ignore my first post. It's the wrong thread. (Heck, if I was young I would have done it right the first time. LOL)

  Hi Paul!
I think the thread that Nobi told you about is too long already...I have a problem each time I try to post to it.
But anyway, welcome to BP!!!

I am 18...and yes, there are PLENTY of other teens out here! I will direct them to this thread and hopefully most will also respond! ; )
I use one of the more advanced point-and shoots, a Canon PowerShot S1 IS, but I plan to get a DSLR soon.

You have some very pretty pictures in your gallery...I can't wait to see more!

Hey what's up Paul? I'm 16 and currently shoot with a Digital Fuji S3000, need to upgrade here soon. Looking into, as Katrina said, a digital SLR.(I'm lookin at the Digital Rebel XT from Canon)
Well anyways, there are plenty of teen photogs out here, just ask around and make some contacts, welcome to the BP teen family! lol. I gotta go, geometry calls(*growl*) Aloha and I'll talk to ya later!

P.S. The main thing I've found a problem on betterphoto is keeping in touch with everyone! So ya might consider setting up a folder in your mailbox for Betterphoto.(that's what I've done and it seems to work pretty well.)

O, I'm sorry, forgot something. As for what I've done with my photograpy thus far. I'm working on deals for inventory photography for currently 4, possibly soon-to-be 5 web-based stores. I am also published in Visions of Memories(2001-2002 I think?) and the newest book(they're working on the title) by the International Library of Photography. More recently I made it into the semi-finals(for a cash prize) in a contest from picture.com(same company). Phew.
I looked at your gallery as well, you have some bery nice shots there, I love the one of the mirrored sky! Keep up the great work. ALOHA

Hey Paul! I'm almost 15(one more month!) I really haven't done much with my photos yet, but soon I plan on entering them in more(reall) contests. I've been photographing for about 5-6years, but just in the last year have been getting really serious with it. My camera is the Sony F828 which is a like-DSLR. I really wish that I had gotten the Canon DRebel though, as they were about the same price when I got mine. So see ya around! David, isn't geometry just evil!

Ahhh please don't get me started on geometry, I thought Algebra was bad when I was doing it, now it doesn't seem so bad! lol How long have ya had your F828 Brendan? Oh well, talk atcha later =]

I also thought that algebra was bad! Now it seems a whole lot easier! I got my F828 not last Christmas but the one before, so for just a little over a year. It's a really nice camera, I just wish I had gotten a DSLR for the bigger sensor and not being limited by a fixed lens.

  Hey all!
Paul, welcome to PB! It is an amazing place to learn all you can a about photography! Talk to the more experienced people, and you can just soak up all they can offer! Mr. Kerry Walker, for example. I think he is the person who most hekped get me started. (Thanks, Kerry!)
Well, I am - as of yesturday - officially 15. Yee-haw! Anyways. I have I have been doing photography for about two years, I think (see Kerry, we all forget stuff; you just forget more! LOL), and have loved every minute. I was serious about it until last June, probably, then I hit the ground running. I have done two weddings - one on my own, one with a friend - and am now working on a yearbook. The weddings were so much fun, and I got sooo many good photos for my portfolio. Great experience. However I might like weddings, my passion is in nature photography.
As too Alegebra... I love it! I am good at math, and really enjoy alegebra. I can't wait to do Alegebra 2 over the summer. I'm nuts, I know.
Well, I will ttyl!

PS I am looking foward to checkingo out your gallery, Paul. I would now, but I have to leave.
PPS very nice to meet you, Paul!

  Hey Elizabeth,
been awhile since we've chatted too, lol. Guess I haven't been on all that muc of the late, oh well *sigh* That's good that you can enjoy the Algebra, I guaruntee it'll make everything else that's coming seem easier too =] Anyways, happy 15th!

Brendan,
Yea the fixed lens is what's limited me big time, I like doing alot of close-ups, high detail macros, and perspective shots, but the fixed lens doesn;t quite give me the proportions I want =( I've been using the same digital 3.1 MP camera since early 2001, lol time for a new one for me. I'm going later today to a friends house(professional photographer, "David Tucker") and might be buying one of his less-often-used digital SLR's, I'm crossing my fingers!

Hey Kerry,
Sounds like you had an interesting week then, eh? lol =P

Take it easy and ttyl all, aloha!
~Dave

Heck, I remember Moses when he was in short pants!

Seriously, I am not as old as I proclaim to be but I won't tell my real age because it would ruin a lot of my jokes. However, I will say that I am probably a little closer to your grandmother's age than your mom's, unless you are the baby of the family. My kids are 10 and 20 but I got a really late start.

Good luck, K! Hope it goes well!

Ther eis a Valentines Banquet at a friend's church, and they asked me to do couples potraits. There are also seven engaged couples that might be looking for a photographer that will be there. Maybe, I'll get to do another wedding! That would be fun.

Well, I got to go, talk to you all later!

Thanks so much, guys! My event turned out great. I didn't do so much of the actual photography, but more filled out order forms and wrote reciepts and such. Sure got muddled when several people kept changing their orders...whew!

Hope your Valentines Banquet goes well, Elizabeth! Wouldn't it be great if you picked up a few more wedding to do!!!

Have a great weekend!

Hi fellow young photographers! I just joined bp about two months ago and the whole time I was wondering if I was the only young one here until I found this thread. And boy was I in for a surprise that there are so many. I'm 17 btw. I shoot with a Canon Rebel XT. I have't done anything with my photos yet like sell them. I see you all haven't responded for quite a while so I don't know if anyone will respond now but it's worth a try.
So long for now!
All of your galleries are amazing!

You ask what does it say with those big ol' letters?
The guy named Namesnik(if that's real) was listing his accomplishments with getting published. I was saying that filling him in on Internation Society of Photographers, as well as picture dot com, would do him a favor. He might not want to hear it, but better for him if he does.
This thread was started a while ago, so mute point now.
Use the search up there for picture.com or ISP to get other threads about it. No need to read the one that's about 350 replies, the shorter ones can fill you in.

Well... It has been awhile. Now, I am nearing my 16th birthday. I ahd no idea it had been that long.

Well, I would love to keep this forum alive... I love hearing about other youth photographers and how their pursuit of excellence is going.

Keep it alive, youth!

Thanks... I can't believe it is almost 2007. THat baffles me! This year FLEW by.

Congrats, Brandon. We must be closer in age than I realized. Do you plan on doing anything special?

My photography is going ok... haven't been doing much lately due to school; this year is a heavy load. However, I have four people interested in seniors; three for summer '07, the other for next year - '08. That is very exciting. I am going to ask two if my friends to be on and off models so I can get some portrait practice. Also, teh Professional Photographers of NC annual convention is coming up in March and Tony Sweet is going to be there. I cannot wait! I so admire his work, and can't wait to ttake his class. Macro is still my favorite. I am liking people more and more, though.

Anyways. I am very excited about this next year; a lot of things happening. Thanks for posting, peeps.
