You need to tell us a few things. Do you want digital or film? Do you want a P&S or a DSLR? What is your price range? Is there any other type of photography besides horses that you want to do?

Digital cameras are well-suited to underwater photography, with a proper underwater housing, of course, so don't forget to budget for that and make certain one is available for your chosen camera. May want a camera housing that will accomodate a more powerful accessory flash than is standard. Optical Zoom lenses seem almost mandatory on digicams these days, but they are very fragile and a frequent source of malfunction, buyer beware. Whatever digicam you get, don't drop it, knock it against something hard, or take it unprotected into wet, humid, or sandy environments. Service life of digicams are currently quite limited - you might consider a 3-year extended warranty that covers both parts & labor, if one is available at a reasonable cost.
