Looking for a new printer

I am looking at present into buying a new inkjet printer. I have been exploring Epson Stylus printers model R800 and R1800 and Photo 1290. Any suggestions?

Epson photo printers have won a well-deserved reputation for producing very high-quality prints when used with Epson genuine ink and the best quality photo paper (Epson Premium Glossy, for example). Any of those three will give excellent results. However, because all Epson printers have the print-head fixed permanently inside the printer (ie the cartridges you buy are simply ink tanks), there is a tendency for this to become blocked with dried ink if not used frequently and regularly. With an HP printer however, the print head is part of the ink cartridge, so every time you change the ink you're also changing the print-head so the old one which be may be blocked or badly worn is simply thrown away when you fit the new one. Hence troublesome or stubborn blockages on an HP printer are easily remedied with a new cartridge. My 3-year old Epson Photo 870 printer 'died' on me last month in exactly that fashion -- the internal print head blocked up on four of the six colours and would not clear (not even with solvent left overnight). But I did not use it every day (sometimes not for a whole week) so I guess I brought it on myself. Just something worth thinking about.

Thank you Phillip for your feedback, I wasn’t aware of this. How do people deal with this problem when they are not using the printer for a longer period of time sometimes even for several weeks?

  Good day Stan,
I have been using Epson for all my on site jobs for years. At this time I use the R300 and am in hopes of getting all 4 switched to theR1800 with in the year.
After spending time with a REP. I caught visiting a Computer Max Store,
I am deffinatly sold on the R1800.
though Heaven forbid I should be around to see if the claims for a 200 year print holds true, lol, lol
Best of luck to you,
Debby
