Photography Question

Gloria S. Rosner

Picture Submission

Hello,

I just started getting back into photography as hobby. I do not have a digital camera at this time. I wanted to participate in the photo contests, so I had my 35MM pictures place on a CD. In trying to uploand one of my pictures and learned the resolution was much to large. I looked into simple editing software like Kodak Easyshare. This did not seem that if would correct the situation. Any suggestions as to what I can do without having to purchas expensive editing software at this time?

Thank.

  Use the new uploader, and it will downsize the pictures for you.

  Thank you for your response. Just wanted to make sure I was clear. You mean the betterphoto software you have to down load to submitt your photos correct? I did review the procedure to upload photos. The "Upload Image Option" states the sized to be no more then 500 Pixels. I intrepreted this to mean the photos had to be compressed beofore you uploaded them.

  I didn't even know BP had any software you had to download. What I'm talking about is, go to Sign In then on the member page, upload new photos. It says there that you don't have to pre-downsize or pre-rotate your pictures any more.

  At this point I am confused. I did see what you said about the new uploader. Then as you read on it still states about the resulution requirements?

  I'm not sure where you're going, so I'll just try and explain it a little more detailed. First, on the left hand side of the home page, hit Sign In, and input your email and password. Then at the top of the page it should say "Gloria S. Rosner's Member Center". Then Make sure the tab that says "My Better Photos" is selected(If you're not sure if it's selected, just click on it). Then click on "Upload New Photos", which is below "Photo Sort Order" and above "Enter The Contest". Then on that page, in the drop down menu, select the camera that you took these with. If you want them to be immeadiately displayed, check the first box. Then check the second box, wich says that you've read the terms and Conditions(If you haven't already read them, then click on Terms and Conditions, and it will take you to them). Then click submit, and then on the next page, follow the "How to Upload" instructions on the top right hand corner of your screen. When you've gotten all of your photos, click send.

  Gloria, I believe there are actually two different ways to upload. The old way, which may only let you do one photo at a time, required that you scaled you photo down to 500 pixels on the short side. The other way uses a Java program, which is downloaded to you machine a run, has a nice little GUI for selecting the shots you want to upload and it automatically scales the image for you.
Incidentally, there is a free photo editing program called GIMP which is available for Windows ( gimp-win.sourceforge.net ). I've never used the Windows version ( I use the one for the Linux OS ), but if your the adventurous type, you might want to check it out. It isn't as smooth as the commercial products, but it's pretty neat just the same.

  Hi Gloria;

The other night, I was turned on to a photo program called Photofiltre. You can download it at www.photofiltre.com. I hope it helps. I'll warn ya, the site is a little confusing. just be sure you click on English at the top of the page. It's a free download, and works very well. I hope it helps. Have a great night and keep shooting.

  Thank you Brendan for you detailed information. I also want to thank Stan and Mark for their information. I am still learning all the steps to upload my photos. The question I have now is do I need to download the beterphoto.com Aurigma Image Uploader 3.5?

Thanks.

Gloria
