Photography Question

PROM PHOTOS

I've been asked to take the prom photos for a very small school. The total potential students at the event is around 30 couples.

I've never done a prom so I have a few questions. What is the going rate to charge a school for your services? The biggest questions, any suggestions on how to have them order and pay. I was going to take two (full and 3/4 length)digital photos of each couple in addition of single portraits of each child. Should I send each couple proofs, have them order and then send the photos all within one months time. Any suggestions would be great!!

Also, I've seen what the big chains do for their prom photos and I think they are very ugly--gawdy borders, print all over the photo--I don't want to do because I like a classier photo. I've told them that but is that the trend and do kids really like that kind of thing? Any comments??

Thanks.

I can tell you that the images from big chains seem rushed and canned. What is going to sell your images for prom and future clients is your originality and imagination. I'm young and I remember high school: we all made fun of those stupid poses and picture packages. Believe me- kids and parents will love a simple and classic style with a touch of your own originality.

I know that when I was in high school, the photo proofs were sent to the school itself (not to us) and we could order a 4x6 for a dollar or something like that. So each picture had a number and you got an order form and went through all the photos and just wrote down the number of the picture you wanted. I remember it being fairly simple and easy to order a whole lot. Plus that way you could order pictures of your friends instead of them having to order enough for you.
