Thanks Debbie T. I was leaning more toward the R1800, b/c I heard it had a higher quality and it can print pretty large. The problem is, over here I don't want to buy it with a German plug. Hmmm.

Thank you all for your input. I have an Epson R1800 and I print all my own photos. I absolutely LOVE this printer. The quality is so professional. It has eight ink cartridges so that the quality of the prints is excellent. When I compared my costs vs. online companies, I came out about the same. Also, I have more creative control over my prints. Well, gotta get back to work. Thanks again for your input.

My husband just finished making a portable setup for me. He has two speaker tripods for his shows (which he's never used) so he bought some plastic but sturdy pipes (at a total of $20) for a light-weight portable setup. Then, we put velcro on the black and white material we bought to velcro over the pipes to be backdrops. At it's biggest, it can be 12 ft. wide X 7 or 8 ft. tall. Saved me some money! I guess we were really lucky to have those speaker tripods. I would never have thought of how to make it myself, but send a man to the hardware store and I guess they can figure out anything. I wish I had a room in our house that could be converted to a studio, but we live in a fairly small apartment. Most of my shots are in the living room.

AHHHHH!!! Slow down, you guys! My eyes have gone buggy from reading all these posts :)

OK, I have to jump back a ways here:

Laura, on The Yawn, is that natural lighting or strobes? If you used strobes they look so natural! Great job!

Becky: You're going to laugh so hard at me, but.......VELCRO!!!! That's profound! I have been brainstorming how I'm going to connect my backdrop to the support my husband is making and I can't believe I haven't thought of velcro! You're a genius!

OK, enough from me - you all have a WONDERFUL day and I'll check back later! ~Kandi

As far as printers go, I tried eBay for the Epson R1800, there were four that popped up, all ship to the states, not worldwide.
I have another equipment question - Does anybody have Alienbees studio lights? Or what studio lights do you recommend? Think fairly small budget, basics I need and limited storage space. (feeling sheepish)

Thanks Kandi. Actually my husband thought of the velcro. he attached both the sticky and fuzzy parts to the cloth so it can be wrapped around the bar. He's very resourceful.

Laura I asked this at the end of the last thread before I realized we were heading into a new one . . .

anyway .. what problems/frustrations have you experienced with MPix. . . just curious really .. . I've gotten good service but sometime wonder if as I get pickier if things just aren't jiving . .. I've got all my stuff from Miller's back out and am contemplating trying them . .. they have an online ordering system that I think I can figure out . . . and you can even get their finished adn stuff with it . . . I did price their gallery wraps though and WOWSERS they are pricey . .. something like $70 for the print on canvas and then another $55 or something to put it on a stretcher frame.. . and their Canvas even through millers is printed on a print and then glued on a canvas. .. but the gallery wraps are printed actally ON the canvas.. .

Becky, I was laughing as I read your post about the speaker tripods. I have a musician husband too and I've already been checking out his boom stand and figured out how I can use it for my lighting.

Becky and Kandi, if you decide to use any flat sheets for backdrops, they already have a folded over pocket to slide your pole or pipe through, you just need to open up the sewn ends. Another way to hang fabric if you don't sew is to buy a package of grommets at the hardware store or fabric store. You can use iron on hem tape to make a double thickness of fabric. You make a tiny hole and place a front and back piece for the grommet and then hammer them together. Really simple, you should have one every 10 inches. Then I use metal shower curtain hooks to slide it on the pole. I'll take a picture of one mine if I get a chance today and show you what I mean.

Nicole, I'll get some info out to you this evening. I have to wait until I can get up to the shop and use high speed internet, the files are pretty big.

HEY, ALL! I have SO MUCH catching up to do, but I had to share these High Key test shots of my daughter. I am SO EXCITED! I did these while I was yapping with Debby about studio lights and backdrops. All I did in PS was give a slight boost to contrast and a little bit of Unsharp Mask! WOO HOO!
