How do I hook up multiple strobes?

I am new to the whole indoor lighting thing. I am scheduled for a course next month, but there is something I am not finding an answer to. So please forgive the green in me while I proceed and ask!
If I purchase say a 3 light set up and I have only one connection on my camera do I need to have at least two of the lights with slaves? or is there a way to hook them all directly to the pc connection? What options are out there? and if there is an article or somewhere to read, please send me there. I have searched by keyword and can not locate the info I'm needing. My apologies in advance if I've ask a ridiculous question! : )

You actually can get sync cords split into a Y connection. Paramount makes sync cords made to order. But you'd have to get some extension sync cords. That's a lot of cord, usually avoided by everybody.
There are slaves that work off of the strobe light, and off of infra red. Those are the two low cost ways, off strobe light being the cheapest. There's radio slave since you asked what options there are.
But most strobes have built in slaves working off of strobe light, so you really wouldn't have to worry about additional connections.

  Good Morning Brigitte,
Gregory has given you the information you were asking for. I wanted to add that I don't remember weather you and I had discussed the type of lighting you were looking at(I am so sorry, My mind has been a little on full as you can imagine)
But , the lighting I usually recommend (especilly the kits) the Britek and Photogenic all include your sync cords and Infra red slaves.
when you are ready to order it or set it up-if you need help just call.
it is very simple.
if you apt to use radio controllers, I use the Calumet Litelink.
I really love these units- you can get a set of two transceivers for less then 1 Pocket wizard max transceiver.
and they are very dependable.
again if any of this is stuff you want to sit and ask questions about-just email me your number and i'll call ya-Saterday and Sunday are great-FREE WEEKEND MINS! unless your cingular then it's free cell to cell.
I hope this helps,
Debby
* one more thing- if shooting with Nikon D70-you will need the AS15
