Photographys in BP newsletters

Hi Jim, et.al. -

I recently saw that one of my pictures (Boulangerie & Bike, Painted) was chosen for the Digital Darkroom newsletter (#32). First, I am flattered that it was chosen (I think), thank you for noticing. My questions: how are these pictures chosen and what does it mean?

Thanks again all.

Mick Burkey

PS, Love your site and am enjoying it immensely. It is very inspiring.

  Hi Mick,
Thanks for your interest in BetterPhoto's newsletters ... and a terrific shot!

We have three newsletters in which we use members' images:

Photo of the Day: Chosen by BP's judges from the contest entries.

Digital Darkroom (i.e., Photoshop techniques) and PhotoFlash (geared to photographic technique): Images selected for these two newsletters meet three criteria:
1) They are eye-catching images - and are not only from members but also from instructors!
2) The images demonstrate a particular digital-darkroom technique (whether PS or any other image-editing software), or a shooting technique (light, composition, exposure, perspective, etc.).
3) Either in the caption or in the discussion thread, the photos include at least some information, tips, etc., on how the photo was captured. Thus, an image with lots of "hey, great shot" responses but otherwise no how-it-was-done info would not be chosen.

Incidentally, pictures selected for any of the above newsletters are totally separate from the regular monthly contest. So, if you upload a picture for the contest and then it soon appears in a newsletter, that's simply extra "exposure" for your photo ... the image remains in the contest.

I hope this makes sense, Mick, and thanks again for your support!
Kerry
