Advice on camera lenses I really like my Fujifilm S5000. Since we will be going on a Hawaiian cruise and then an Alaskan cruise, I was interested in getting a telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens. When I went to the shop where I bought my camera, I was told they didn't have any, since Fuji quit making my camera. Any advice for getting these lenses? I looked on E-bay, but all they had were lenses made by a company called Opteka. Are they any good? Also, while I was at Walt Disney World, I met a guy who had the same camera I do, and he told me to buy a uv filter to always keep on my camera and a polarizer. Any opinions on those? Thanks for all the info. I just recently started taking pictures. I haven't even figured out everything on my camera yet. I was browsing on another photo discussion board, but you guys seem to be a LOT nicer.

The S5000 should have come with the AR-FX5 adapter tube/ring that allows the attachment of 55mm diameter filters and accessory lenses. The Fujifilm website lists the WL-FX9 wide angle lens for the S5000, but not the TL-FX9 1.5x teleconversion lens. Instead, the current model is TL-FXE01 1.94x but it does not list the S5000 as compatible. Search new and/or used for the TL-FX9 (I've seen it listed in stock at several retailers), or you can go with a similar 3rd party teleconverter that has 55mm diameter mounting threads.

Re filters Some recommend that a UV filter be attached at all times as a protective cover for the lens. Some (like me) do not find this necessary. To each his own. A polarizer is a very useful accessory for certain situations. Can make for darker blue/more dramatic sky, and remove reflections from water or windows.

Hi Christi! I also have the S5000. Sorry to hear the lenses aren't made anymore - I don't know about that brand either on E-bay. I actually never spent the money on them because I found it was just too pricey. For macros though I bought a set of close-up filters (55mm size fits the S5000). I also do keep a UV filter on at all times just to protect it (these are basically just glass so paying more isn't going to really get you better quality. As for a circular polarizer it's good for landscapes with water and shots with reflections... I got all my filters on e-bay. Take a look - they probably have sets.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. Sounds like I definitely could use the polarizer for both cruises. I'm going to order the wide-angle lens from the website (thanks for the link). I also went to a different store (same chain), and the sales rep there was a lot more helpful. She's going to try to get a telephoto lens for me.
