Softening a subject What is the best filter to use for softening a subject. I just started shooting glamour photography and I need a softener that is not too soft. Can you help?

This is how I did this with this shot.. 1. Original layer 2. Duplicate layer (guassian blur around 4.5, but again you can play around with this) 3. Duplicate layer (soft light, but you can use other settings too! try playing around with it) Here is the tricky part...I carefully erased the blurred layer just on her eyes, so they will "pop" Hope this helps.

Thank you Susan for the tip! I will try that next time. Great shot.

Your welcome! I do this quite often with varying degrees and different settings, but overall it's the same process. Another shot I used this for was "Pretty Boy" in my gallery. SO it works for pets too :) Thanks so much for your kind words. Let me know how it works out for you.

You could also use a dreamy filter. Free download to ps from autofx.com Also Virtual Photographer has one called 'romance' that softens pretty well, too. Also a free download from optikvervelabs.com.
