Photography Question

How to get selective coloring in Photoshop Element

Can anyone tell me if you can do selective coloring to your images in Photoshop Elements 3.0? I want to do color accents. Do I need a different version of Photoshop?
Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you

Beleive it or not but it is simple.

First make a layer copy. that's so your not using your orginal photo. Go to ehance then to adjust color, then to adust Hue/Saturation. Slide the bar all the way to the left. How you have a B&W photo.

Then take a eraser tool and go over the part of the photo you would like to be in color. I like to enlarge the photo and start with a big eraser and use a small eraser on the edges.
Hope this helps.

  Hi Hayley, welcome to BP.

I use PE 2.0 but, they should be nearly the same. Here is how I go about it.

You want to use the laso tool to select the area you want coverted then right click and feather it a little so that is doesn't appear obvious. Usually a 3-5 will do the trick. Then right click and copy to new layer. Convert the new layer to B&W then flatten the image.

Thank you both for your help. I tried it on a photo and submitted it today. I ended up using Dr. Silly's method. I couldn't figure out how to convert the new layer to black and white in Nicole's method. I don't really understand a whole lot in photoshop yet. Do you guys just learn this by trial and error or is there a guide to photoshop? I am just using the trial version right now...wanted to see if I liked it before I spent the money on it and right now I am very frusterated with the program!!
But I truly thank you for your help!!
Hayley

It looks great, Hayley! Nice job!

There are some great books out there that will run you through the basics. I would try the library. You'll also pick up a little here and there (especially on this site) and you'll be able to play around more.

I recieved both of my PE programs with a printer and then a scanner that I had purchased. If your in need of one of those things you may want to check and see if they include PE. It may save you some money in the long run.
