Reflector for Outdoor Wedding Ok I'm doing my first paid wedding on the 11th of November and the ceremony is outdoor at 2pm in the afternoon in Florida that is a bad thing. I know I need to get a reflector but I don't know where I can get one. I've never used one before so I have no clue. Any information is greatly appreciated. Is there anything else that I would need to capture great photos at that time of day? Thanks for looking. Any Info will help.

Get yourself a car windshield reflector (one that is gold on one side, silver on the other). You should be able to get two really big circles out of it, then just trim it with bias binding (or not). This is what I did, and both cost $15 all up, as opposed to $50 each. I hope this helps.

I found one (a new 42" 5-in-1 reflector, gold, silver, etc.) on Ebay for $24, but shipping (2nd day) was $16, so it was about $40 total. It seems reflectors are running about $1 per inch, so I like the idea of getting the car windshield reflector for a silver reflector. I used mine (using the gold reflector) to highlight a few faces in the shade by positioning the reflector such that it picked up the natural light, and placed a soft golden cast into their faces and as a "hairlight", making their hair shine golden. More importantly, though, I used the diffuser part of the reflector to BLOCK the sunshine while I was shooting the procession down the aisle. I attached it to an adjustable 3-legged stand, and stood on the side of the reflector (closest to the altar) so that I didn't have any solar flare affecting my photos as the bridal procession came down the aisle (as I pointed my camera back toward the beginning of the runner the procession came down). I was glad I had this forethought, but I am grateful I did, as the bride and her dad shot was amazing!

I hate to come off as as negative , Sasha, but I think you might be in deep doo do here. Does the happy couple know that this is your first paid wedding? This is their big day, and there are reasons why people spend big bucks on pros. Truthfully, I don't like most of the standard wedding photography, "traditional" work. Not my style. But you should make sure THEY know what to expect. At the gazillions of weddings I've been a been to, guests never see a reflector, or any type of intrusive, high maintenence equipment If anything they are set up ahead of time, for the "traditional" portraits, indoors or outdoors - for a few minutes, then it's mostly "casual" shos. Anyway, my point is that if you're asking this good, but super basic, question are you being as honest with them as you are with us?

I just wanted to thank everyone for you taking time to answer my question.I will defenitly look into the car reflector I have heard of it. And Shannon, I was a bride myself and know how important it is to have great pictures. And the answer to your question is that they are aware that this will be my first paid wedding. They have seen my work and have known me for a very long time.I'm a honest person and never stated that the couple didn't know. Thanks everyone...for your replys.
