Dancing model I'm preparing myself to document clubbing life shooting few rolls of b&w film (Ilford HP5) in modern house and techno clubs. I already arranged a model. The only concern is how should I play with exposure... I'm using Canon EOS30 w/Speedlite380EX on it. First of all: can I feel comfortable about my model at almost any exposure settings at distance not more than 3-5 meters? If so, how should I bind flash light to natural light conditions to obtain natural effect? Shall I use direct or bounced light? @ full flash power or reduced... Or in other words: How to work with modern flashes (TTL) in low-light situations?

Not knowing the specifics of what you can do with that camera and flash combo I will give you my take on what you are trying to do. First of all you shouldn't have a problem with exposure at those distances. To balance the flash with the ambient light you will have to "drag" your shutter. This means using a slower shutter speed to record the ambient light. For a natural look second or rear curtain flash sync works well, if your system is capable of it. I almost always prefer bounced flash but then you have to decide the effect you want. I don't see any reason not to shoot at full power since your flash is your main light source.
