Porto Tripod Recommendation

I'm looking for a very high quality tripod w/head. I will be using it for Studio Photography as well as location photography. It should accomodate a Canon 20D with Flash attached. I have been looking at the Bogen 3050 w/3047 head. Would this be a good choice for me? If not, what would be a good choice?

Cynthia, I purchased the Bogan-Manfrotto 3021BPro tripod with the 3047 head this summer and couldn't be more pleased. This is a good looking, well-designed, sturdy setup. The head is a three-way that works flawlessly. You might prefer a ball head (individual tastes). I use the Nikon D70 which is comparable in size and weight to your Canon.
Hope this helps.
John

actually, John...Would you say that this tripod is light enough to carry around to different locations?

Also, anyone know the difference among the numbers on the tripods/heads (i.e....3050 vs 3021/3047 vs blah...)

Cynthia, Carrying around?? Do you mean hiking through Yellowstone or taking it out of the car and walking to your photo location? The tripod weighs just 5.3 lbs without the head which weighs 3.4 lbs. Total: close to 9 lbs. I have carried mine quite a few places with no problem. There are eyes for using an optional carrying strap which helps. You can buy straps with snap fastenes on each end from a number of places. I don't have any info on the 3050. I looked on Bogen's site (www.bogenimaging.us) and saw no reference to a 3050. Adorama (through Amazon) has my tripod at $140.00 and thenhead at $83.00. This one is aluminum. Others, more expensive ones, are carbon fiber.

Go the the Bogen site and compare specs on all the tripods and heads.

One more really big PLUS. I'm 6' 1" tall and can see through the viewfinder with the legs fully extended and the center post at its lowest (unextended) position. This is one of the most important factors as I didn't want to have to stoop to compose a photo.

I'm talking about carrying it around for my shoot. This sounds like a good set-up...I'm still curious, though...what does 3050 & 3021 mean? I am assuming the higher the number the later the model??? Anyway, thanks for your suggestions, John. It looks like a good tripod for me :).

Cynthia, these are just model numbers. Idon't know if there's any correlation between the number and the release order. Check out their web site and you can see all their offerings.
