Converting from jpeg to tif? If I shoot an exposure in jpeg, then do some work in ps and resave it again as a jpeg I know I loose some quality due to compression. However if I shoot in jpeg, edit in ps, then save in tif without any compression will I still loose some quality or will the original quality remain?

Hi Barbara, any editing you do to your photo results in some quality loss regardless of what you save as. If you really want the best JPEG quality you should shoot in RAW, edit in Tiff mode then finally save at the highest quality JPEG. This will give you the best results while limiting damage done by editing.

Daniel is right about shooting in Raw if you want the absolute best results. Besides that though, you won't lose any quality saving as a tiff. Jpegs use are "lossy" because they lose information each time they compress and Tiffs are "lossless" because they don't lose any information. However, tiffs are much larger in file size. I like to save all my pictures I edit in a separarte folder in psd format (as photoshop files) so I can go back and edit or undo any editing if I want. After I'm done editing I'll often do like Daniel and "save at the highest quality JPEG." If I ever decide to crop differently or make any other changes I go back into my psd file or tiff, make the changes, and then save as another JPEG. I never open an edited jpeg to make changes.

I don't have Raw capabilities, so I shoot in JPEG and save in TIFF.
