Photography Question

Are there any other teen photographers out there??

I was just wondering if there were any other young photographers on this site, I can't be the only one! lol, I am 15 and grew up in Arizona, USA, 100%desert-born. WE just made a very different change of environments when we moved out here to Oahu, Hawaii early in '05. I enjoy macro photography the most, talk to you soon if there are any others out there, :P.
Aloha and Mahalo(thank you) for your quick responses,

Okay, I just re-read this thread and realized I didn't even say what I shoot with! (Sorry, Justin!)
I use a Canon PerShot S1 IS. It's all I can afford right now, in between car insurance and rising gas prices!
Come on over to my gallery and check things out! I am always looking for constructive critique!

But, I have about 600 dollars saved up, and in a couple months I'm gonna add that to some money from my dad and am planning on buying a good digital SLR and a Macro lens for it, so I can get the really close up shots I want,

Well, most of oyu have some better equipment than I currently do(not that everything is equipment, but ya'll know what I mean, :P) But I am looking at getting an SLR sometime in the near future, within about a year(the only problem is the expense, amazing how much some of this equipment costs!) I'll take a look at all your galleries as I get the chance, talk to you all later, and ALOHA!

  Kerry, I will tell her.

Cavid, we love to have you. You have and will be a great contribute to this community, I can tell. Keep on kepping on! And, the ONLY reason I have a (really)nice camera, is because my grandmother bought it fo me. I thought I wouldn't be getting it until sometime next summer. I had like $85 saved up towards it, and then BOOM. happy day.

Stephanie, you have some great photos! I really like Duck Looking Away, Sand Ripples, Snail 2, and Painted Zebra - very nice.. is this PS? I am sure it is, but if so, you did a really good job! Bravo!

Anyhoot, I gtg, later too all teens - and teens at heart!

David,

I am 15 years old, I shoot for the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram and other DFW area newspapers with my friend, who is 15 as well. I enjoy working with landscapes, action, travel, and macro to go along with my job, sports and journalism photography. Whenever we shoot at some of the professional sports events around here, we always get weird looks and some of the pros compliments on our "young-eyes", but its all the more fun being the youngest on the sidelines. Not to mean that I can't wait to get older and get treated with more respect at some of the events ;). Anyways, my friend and I both own Canon Digital Rebels, all of our newspaper covered events are shot with the Canon 1D Mark II or Canon 1Ds Mark II. We use Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L, 17-40 Canon L, 28-105mm Canon f/3.5-4.5, Sigma 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 (those are the four we own), and shoot events also with Canon 300mm f/2.8 L, Canon 400mm f/2.8 L, and Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L. Just got back from a nice trip to the National Canyon parks in Utah, so I'm working through those right now, I posted some above, any critique is appreciated. But I do know that there are plenty of young photographers here, I expect this thread to keep on growing.

Katrina, thank you so much! It's always good to hear somebody likes your stuff. Especially somebody outside your immediate family:) I really like your stuff too. Is Beauty From Long Ago hand colored? Or is it decreased opacity? By the way, I noticed that you accidently hit the "p" on your keyboard, you spelled it "Agp". Just wanted to let you know.

Sorry, I just realized that decreased opacity doesn't make sense. What I meant was decreased opacity color layer over a black & white duplicate layer. You can't take anything I say literally, I leave stuff out and mix up words constantly. Dyslexia of the mouth I guess:)

Thanks for the heads up on my typing error, Stephanie!
About 'Beauty From Long Ago', all I did (I use Microsoft Photo Editor for the time being) was decrease the saturation of the colors. Does that make sense?
All the cat pictures I have are taken of my sister's cats...so they're kind of mine too! ; )
Don't worry about mixing up words on here...it happens all the time and we can usually tell what you're trying to say anyway! ; )

Wow, lots of responses, and I too am sure this will contine on into a lenghty discussion ,but thats fine with me! lol. the shots are wonderful forrest, youre ahead of me anyway, I don't understand anything about the lenses and stuff you were talking about(ar anyone else) im just startin to actually get into it myself, so I dont know much of the photographers language, I guess you could say, ;).
As for making misatkes on here with typing, I really dont care(as you can tell from any one of my posts) no need to go back and fix little stuff when were all just casually chatting.
You could always use the Hawaiian by-product language from over here, "pigeon".
All yu brada's an sista's can be all talkin story about anythin ya wanna and makin typin mistakes on da keyboard, but hey, inoca.
Lol, hard to type or read, but its hilarious to listen to, :P.
Well, as elizabeth said, "keep on keepin on" and its nice ta hear from ya'll. Hang loose,

Tis true.... our vocabulary and grammar has sadly declined of late.

Guess what? You'll never guess, so I'll tell you :-) I have been asked to be the photographer for a friend's wedding. I was so surprised... I was almost speechless - which doesn't happen, like ever - I am still in shock. I am going to do it with the help of two of my friends from church who are both great photographers, and pray it goes well. The wedding is in November, so I have some time... but please pray for me. Any input and help greatly appreciated! Well, gtg! Tootles!

One thing to remember, if the wedding is held inside a church, the lighting will usually be pretty poor, so just keep that in mind! ; ) Good luck!

Thats awesome Elizabeth, sure you'll do a great job. Yea I remember when I was using film, rolls sitting all over the house, find em sittin all over the place, "howd that et there? whered that come from?" and every time ya thought ya had them all developed, you'd find more. I know how you feel, thats why I switched to digital as soon as I possibly could, more expensive at first, but it saves in the long-run!(especially if oyure like me and you get an equal amount of horribly blurry pictures as you do great ones, :P) Oh well, to any of ya that would like it if I'd clean up the english a little, lol. My dad was talkin to ppl in Hawaiian chat rooms online b4 we moved out here, and one guy said you only need to know one word, he spelled it out...I-N-O-K-A- my dads like "inoka?, what does that mean, the guys like "nonono, I kno Ka'" then my dad got it. Dumb soundin story, but it so true, everyone out here goes like 20 miles under the speed limit and is SO laid back.(On north shore anyways, honolulu is horrible for a country kid like me, :P) Well, ive gone on for a bit now, and I feel like im talkin too much as usual, lol. Tty'all lata,

Aloha to u bradaz and sistaz,( :P )

Thanks Katrina, I will remember that.

David, it is probably just me and my slow head, but what was that story about? I didn't get it. I am so stupid. Lo siento. Is it like, "I know, 'cause..." or what? Lo mucho siento, again.

Caiti, keep it up! One day, you will get all those rolls of film developed... though my mother still has birth photos from us on film, I'm sure. Lol.

Ohwell, see ya'll!

No, its not you and your slow head, lol. Its kinda hard to read and ya have to know some of it to understand it fully. But when somethin ends in an "a", the a sounds like it should be "ea". So its "I no Kea" or "i no care" guess I should have exaplined that, :P. Oh well, like said, its hard to explain without being able to hear it, lol. tta lataz!

Hey Bridget, Gary, and everyone else too!
I havent been on in a while now, I'm about half way through school break and have nothing to do really, so I'm just hangin out bein lazy! Glad to meet all of you and hope we can all learn a little somethin more from eachother, and make soem freinds in the process.
As for your question Bridget, I'm not all that sure how to start making money off of my work. First I want to get some of it copyrighted so I can sell it. After that, sky's the limit! I am also a member of Ofoto, where you can have poster size prints sent to your house, coffe mugs with your photographs on them, T shirts, etc. I'm going to get some printed up with some flowers and hawaiian scenery, and put em up online. Also, I am going to be doing all the photography for a book a friend is doing. It's going to include over 1000 tribal art tattoos he does in his polynesian tattoo out here. I won't be getting any money out of it, but that's fine with me, Because it's all the more published work Ill have out there! Nice hearing from ya all and keep in touch! Aloha and Mahalo!

Hey David, that's really cool about the book! My dad's going to be doing a book on covered bridges of America...and we're thinking about collaborating on a coffee table book of unique mailboxes!
That's also a great idea about putting your photos on mugs and such to sell. E-nay is a great place to sell things...you have to be 18 to get an account, but maybe you could go through your parents and start a small pics on mugs sale there! Have a great rest of the weekend!

Yea I'm supposed to start on it later this week actually, gonna take a while to get that many though. I have to wait until he actually has done over 1000 recent tattoos so I can get fresh pictures. It'll definitely be a while, but he's very serious about me doing all the photography for it. Have fun doing the books, sounds like you'll be busy as well!
Yea I'm actually going to get an ebay store under my step mom's or my mom's stores. they'll manage it, but I'll be setting everything up and all that fun stuff. Have a great weekend(sunday anyway) everyone and AlOhA!

  Hey David!

Well, I looked at your gallery, and I think you have improved much since last time I was on. You are doing a great job! Your landscapes are beautiful! Bravo! My only suggestion is for the flower macro - I would try it w/o the flash... maybe on a different backdrop or different lighting. Just a thought.

Katrina, I looked at your picture too. It is beautiful! Great job! I commented there too.

Hey again, guys. I just recalled. I am shooting my first wedding this Sat! I am getting nervous, and could use prayer.

Also, I have been asked to do two more weddings, one in Dec., one in Jan. Man, shooting weddings is a big deal! There is so much stuff I forgot to talk to the bride about, and we are going ot the church in the morning, and what equipment to bring, yada yada. SIGH. Well, I'll talk to you later!

Don't stress out too much!!! Just remember that you will DEFINITLY need a tripod and probably a few extras memory cards, or whatever it is your camera takes. Weddings ARE big deals...but have fun too!
I remember the one I did...it was an all day affair, from about 9 in the morning to get photos of things being set up, then we had the bride dressing/putting on makeup, then the wedding and the reception and all in all it lasted until about 8 at night! I was exhausted, but had so much fun too!
Can't wait to do another one...right now I am busy with Senior portraits and maybe a wedding and then I get to shoot at an elementary school prom in Feb. Get to dress up too! How fun!
Well, I have blurbed on enough! Have a great rest of the week and if I don't speak to you before then, good luck with the wedding! ; )

  Hey Collette!
I have a simple point and shoot, a Canon PowerShot S1 IS. I hope to buy myself a good DSLR on my nineteenth birthday...my gift to myself! I feel that I am really outgrowing the camera I have, and I can't wait to get something better!
What about you?
Great to hear from you so soon!

  Hey Katrina!
What DSLR are you thinking of getting? Yeah and I know what you mean about out growing the camera!!
Right now I shoot with a Nikon N80, its a film SLR. So when I shoot I then have to take my negatives to get scanned to a cd, so that I can work on them in PS!!! I am also hoping to get a DSLR soon, Im still saving though, and hoping that if I wait longer the prices might go down!!!!=)

I hadn't decided yet, Collette! I was thinking of looking at all the reviews of camera here on BP and then hopefully making a choice. They are SO expensive though, especially when you also get the almost necessary lenses like a polarizer and wide angle lens. I hope I'll have enough for it by July!
I used to have film camera...can understand that it isn't fun going to all that trouble just to get a picture edited!
Hope you can get what you want too!

  Hey guys!

I am getting ready to head out to the wedding, we're just waiting for our co-photographer from our church.

I am doing well, Collette, thanks for asking. I shoot with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, but only have the 18-55mm lense. I think after these two weddings - yes, I have one NEXT weekend too; sigh - I think I am going to get a new lense. Oh, and I have a wedding in Jan. too! My life is crazy.

Katrina, that prom sounds like a blast! I hope it goes well for you!

Hey, all... one of my friends from church recently got a BP gallery, but I don't know how to find her. Any ideas? Thnaks a ton!

Well, I got to go get my shoes... my friend is almost here. Talk to ya'll later!

Now see, I would, but her only sister is getting married in the next two months, and they are all going a little nuts. I don't want to ask her to do anything that will distract her.

SIGH The wedding is over. I am glad. I think it went well, except one time during the ceremony.... that scared me, and we haven't seen the pictures yet. Very sad. Oh well, We are trying to get it moving.

Well, I got to go! LOTS of school to do!

  Hey,
Elizabeth, I hope you had fun doing the wedding, and Im sure that the pictures will come out great!!! You should post a couple of them in your gallery so that we can all see them!!

It sounds like you have a full schedule ahead of you with all of the weddings you are doing!!!

Katrina, I hope you find the camera that you want, before you buy one though you should look online for one, I know a bunch of places that sell them for a good deal less than the asking price, here are a few you should check out: www.amphotoworld.com , www.bhphoto.com ,www.ebay.com those are just a few I hope they will help!

Happy Birthday, Collette! Of course, today might not be your actual birthday, but you said you would be 18 in a couple days and that time is up, so happy birthday! ; )
Thanks for listing those sites...E-bay is a personal favorite of mine already! But I hadn't heard of the others...so I will have to check those out once I have enough money!
How are you coming with your camera purchasing quest?

Elizabeth...congrats on doing your first wedding!!! I'm sure the pics turned out great! Can't wait to see some of them! ; )

I think Im leaning towards getting a Nikon D200, but I cant decide between that and the D70, so Im going to keep gathering info on the two. How about you, how are you doing with your camera research?

  Hey all!

I love these boards... I just love keeping in touch with you all.

I will post some as soon as I can... and some Mexico ones too. I FINALLY got to look at them yesterday... some came out really good. I can't wait to post them. Also, my sister is having her sweet 16th this Sat. and it is gonna be a Masked Ball. That should provide for some neat photos.

I got to use my friend's lense for the wedding - it's a 24-70mm portraiture lense - and fell in love with it. After I get a photos only computer, which should be soon, I hope to get one of those lenses. They rock!

I hope you all have a great evening. Talk to you later!
