Photography Question

What to shoot in a wedding

I'm shooting my first wedding soon, and I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of what pictures I should be taking. Ringberer & Flower Girl, Families of the Bride & Groom, what else?

  Stephanie,

if you google for something like "Wedding Photography Checklist" you should be able to find a lot of sample lists from others that you can work from.

  Stephanie,
BetterPhoto member John Lind has a very helpful guide to shooting weddings HERE.

In the "Planning" section, he has a good list of things you don't want to miss.

Good luck

I've only shot three weddings, so I am obviously NOT a pro. (far from it, actually) But I have found that the more pics the better. The more you shoot, the more ideas will pop in your head. Plus, it doesn't hurt to ask the B&G if there was anything specific they wanted: a picture with a special uncle, a pose they saw of someone else's wedding, etc. Plus, as I was browsing the photography section of Border's I noticed quite a few books on wedding photography. They had some great ideas for "non-traditional" poses so the people in the pictures don't look so stiff. Maybe check out your library.
Women like little things like details. Be sure to take pics of the dress, the pearls her mom gave her, her SHOES! (very important for a woman ;)) There is so much beauty to be captured on a wedding day I am sure you will have no problem. :) Good luck, and let us all konw how it went.

I have shot about 5 weddings now (also not a pro) and I am starting to make the move into semi-pro. I truly enjoy wedding photography and I think that is very important. I'm a big fan of props. Ask the Bride and Groom to bring various props that are an extension of their personality. For my own wedding I brought a superman shirt and cape, sunglasses, toy guns (we had rented an old Buick auto and I thought it would be great to do a 20's style gangster shot in seria with my groomsmen), a wrestling title belt ... Things like that. Now some my favourite shots are the ones that I used these props. It always brings a smile to me, my wife and the prople we share are photos with.

Of course get yourself a checklist as well for the must have photos but thought I would add my $.02 in about the importance of props.
