Photography Question

Kathleen Parker & Chris Vedros

In case anyone hasn't seen Judie Silbermann's post today, please check it out - good news - Kathleen Parker is safe and well. Has anyone had any news of Chris Vedros?? Still praying for everyone over there in the middle of all this. We heard on the local news today (Nassau, Bahamas) that there is a Bahamian student stuck at the Super Dome - quite a lot of Bahamians attend university in New Orleans and our government is trying to locate them, so please add them to your prayers.

The last I heard from Chris was that he was in Amite - not far north of New Orleans but safe. They are now trying to evacuate the Superdome. No AC there and it is getting very hot. I am in north LA and all motel rooms are full as well as other shelters. I will be praying for everyone.

Thanks Kerry, glad to hear that Chris is OK - what kind of experience did you have of the storm - was your area affected in any way?

We were lucky in a way. We had some slight wind, nothing serious. Don't even know if it was from the storm. We didn't even get any rain - which we need badly. I am going to try to contact Chris. Hopefully, he can get e-mail since I don't have a number for him.

If you get hold of him give him my best wishes, Kerry. We had a good amount of rain from Katrina here as it passed by as a tropical storm - my step daughter in Miami was without power, not sure if they have it restored yet - I still can't get my head around how this storm picked up and caused all this devastation.

When I left town last weekend, Katrina was a Cat 2, headed for the panhandle of Florida. When I got up Sunday morning to come back home, it was a Cat 5 headed straight for N. O. Even though it was downgraded to a Cat 4 by the time it hit, the vast amount of water it brought was devastating, especially since much N. O. is about 6' under sea level. It will take months before things get back to any semblance of normal, probably years before it is really normal. Folks here and in MS didn't think anything could make them forget Camille. Katrina did.

Thank you, Ann, for posting this.
KathleenKP and Chris have been in my thoughts and prayers.
So many people are in need of so much help, support, and prayers.
This is so heartbreaking. I will continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers, and do my best anyway I can to provide aid and support.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support. My wife, three kids and I, along with her parents, grandparents, and sister left New Orleans on Sunday to take refuge with some friends in Amite, LA about 40 miles NNW of Lake Pontchartrain. That put us on the "safer" side of the storm, but we still had very strong winds there. Many trees were knocked down, and power was lost throughout the region. Traci's grandfather will be 90 in a few days, so we went there so we would at least have a bed for them.

We left there yesterday, and have found a house to rent here in Lafayette, LA.

The images we're seeing from back home are just too shocking to believe. It's surreal.

The scenes of looting among the ruins downtown turn my stomach.

I think we'll be here for a while. We're still trying to make contact with other family members and friends.

I'll be in touch when I can.

Thanks again for your concern.

Chris Vedros

I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I think we are all feeling the tragedy in one way or another, but I am sure my perspective is still somewhat skewed, living so far away. Please know that my husband and I are praying for you all. We love you and care for you...

Chris I am so pleased to hear you and your family is safe. I am just so saddened by what I've seen over the last few days. Words fail me when I think of all the destruction. Take care and write me when you get a chance.

Just wanted to let Chris and everyone affected by the storm that there are many prayers on your behalf here. The stories of the devestation of the storm are heartbreaking. (My family is from TN so we had to deal only with rain, heavy winds and slight flooding in areas. We are in the middle of two towns who lost power but we were fortunate not to.) Like some of the others I cannot even begin to mentally grasp the magnitude of loss the storm has dumped on some families...all I can do is offer my prayers and thankfulness for those who survived!

I agree with Sherry. It's just overwhelming. If we can do anything to help any stranded BPers, just ask!

Thank you all for your prayers.

We're doing okay here in our little home away from home. The people here have been very kind and generous.

A BIG "Thank You" to you and your son, Kerry, and to everyone else who are helping out in some way during this difficult time. That's the spirit that will help us get through this.

It's very difficult to describe in words all the thoughts and feelings that I'm experiencing right now.

I think I need to find some time to spend here in the Q&A forum. Maybe that will make me feel a little bit more "normal".

Chris
