Preserving Prints

I own a Minolta 500si SLR. I find this site very usefull.
This is my first question to you all. What kind of prints - matt finished or glossy (lusture) - are good for the following:
1. Viewing details in the picture
2. Long Life (preservation....say around 20-25 years)
3. Both - Details as well as Long Life?
Here I am talking about 4 X 6 prints.
Will be actively putting in more queries, for now, just this one.
Thanks.....
Bipin

  Hi Bipin,
Here's my take on it having had high gloss, glossy, semi-gloss and matte prints made:

1. Details:
High gloss and glossy show greatest detail.

2. Long Life:
Brand/type of print paper makes more difference than finish. From what I understand, Fuji Crystal Archive Professional paper has the greatest archival life among color papers. Also ranked highest in archival life is Ilfochrome (formerly called Cibachrome) for printing transparencies (slides). The longest archival life is probably B/W prints.

3. Both detail and life:
See #1 and #2.
