Photography Question

Bobbi S. Tomes

anyone know of circle of photographers site?

I submited an image I made to a contest on a site called circleofphotographers.com and today I recieved a notification in my email saying my image would be published in their manuscript, I think it was called vibe photography or something very similar. Anyhow it went on to say that I could purchase a copy for $59 and also there were options to purchase a certificate plaque with the image and my name also on it in recognition of being published and the option , for more money, to have a biography included in the manuscipt. It sounds neat, I dont have any sort of certificates, plaques, awards or anything like that and I would like to have it, but is it a scam? Is it worth the money and has anyone else went through with a purchase from this site that can share their experience?

I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but yes they are a COMPLETE scam along with picture.com, ILP, and cutestpets.com(and there's probably more). If you want more info on it, you can search the Q&As for any of these sites and you will get lots of info. Let us know if you need something else.

DON'T SEND THEM MONEY...IT'S A SCAM! There are several threads on BP about this. Just plug Circle of Photographers in the Search to view more info. A lot of people have sent money and never received a thing. A lot of us have submitted photos at one point and have ALL received the exact same letters, wording and all, and follow-up correspondence. I finally sent back an e-mail and told them to delete my image from their database and that they are NOT authorized to use it under ANY circumstances and threatened legal action if they did. I never heard another word from them, so I didn't get confirmation of that, either. But at least they've left me alone!

  Hi
I rec'd my "uh hummmm" wonderful book yesterday from cutestpets.com and I have never been so disappointed. I have tried and tried to go into picture.com and cancel my 2 photos that they have but it won't let me send email to them. Also I am going to try to see if I can get my money back on this stupid book. What a rip-off!!

Hi Brendan, No, I sent them a check. I wrote to them and told them I was really disappointed in their book and wanted my money back and they emailed me back and gave me the address of where to return and the book and said a refund would be sent shortly after the book was returned. They said they were really sorry I felt the way I did and that MOST PEOPLE LOVED THEIR BOOK!

The amount of posts in relation to this scam - it really makes me wonder why people are still sending them things and getting sucked in. There is at least a post a week on this.

  Hi Natalie,
Even tho it states that I was a member here since 10/27/2003, I never heard of this place until this past week and I just joined. So I didn't know anything about the posts in relations to the scams going on in these various photography web sites. They send you a letter than sounds really great. Yes, I know I'm blonde and dumb and gullible but oh well. Live and learn and go forward having learned from one's mistakes. Next time I will be more careful and hopefully others can learn from my mistakes!

LOL! Kathy, don't say that! Just from my point of view is that I am only on here about twice a week and I have seen so many numerous posts about this, there is usually at least one in the top 20 threads, that I thought everyone who is a member of BP would of at least seen one somewhere along the line.

Natalie, It's true ~ teehee. I had a feeling when I did it, but went and did it anyway...so nobody's fault but mine...and you know the old saying: "When in doubt, DON'T!" But today I sent the book back and now we shall see how long it takes to get my money back.

Since you used paypal Kristen, you can file a complaint or something and paypal can try and get you your money back. There was a thread about this, and I'll try and find it for you.
