Old lenses, help !!!


hi, I am a new beginner and have my first 'old' SLR,a pentax p30t. I want to bye a close-up lens for it, where and which lenses can I bye... please help.

  The P30t uses Pentax's K-mount lenses. Specifically it was made for Ka mounts ("SMC-A"), but there is great compatibility throughout the K-mount line. You can even mount and use Pentax's latest autofocus lenses - though that wouldn't be my first choice since they are not as easy to use in manual focus as an old manual focus lens.

For close-up, a 90mm to 105mm Macro lens is preferred. Tamron makes a very good one, the SP 90mm f/2.8 Macro. It is still available new in manual focus with their Adaptall mount to fit the Pentax K-mount, or you can buy the autofocus version for Pentax.

The current model Pentax (SMC P-FA 100 f/2.8 Macro) is autofocus, but can be used on the P30t. Similar for the autofocus Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro (in Pentax mount).

There are also several older manual focus Pentax models you can shop for used that are very good, such as the SMC Pentax-A 100mm f/2.8 Macro.

  P.S. There is a very economical 100mm f/3.5 Macro made by Cosina that is still available new in manual focus K-mount. Sold under Phoenix, Vivitar, and Promaster brands, it can be found for ~$110-150.

  I'm with you Tom. My first SLR was a Pentax too - no built-in meter, screw mount, etc. That was back when Pentax cameras were imported by Honeywell.
