Photography Question

Julie A. Sword

Getting into the business

Hi. I was hoping someone out there can help me with this question. I am a freelance photogragher, and have a good stock of photos. I like taking shots of county concerts, air shows, hydro boat races, drag races and some landscape. What I would like to know is how to get into the business of selling my photos and be legal with selling photos of stars. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Only the North Star and maybe those which make up the Big Dipper. :)

Anything (anyone) else would require releases from the parties involved if you plan to profit from photos of them.

So like Bob said a model release is a must for anyone recognisable in the photo. Are you looking for equiptment? If so, do you use digital or film and what equiptment do you already have? Also a great book to get is the Photographers Market. I'm not sure who the author is though.

Of course you can sell star photos. You just need to sell them for editorial purposes only. There is actually a large market for such photos. This is done a lot.

This artical will help you understand your risks and model releases. Model releases are not ALWAYS required.
