portrait basics hi all, need some of your collective wisdom here. my uncle has asked me to do do some portraits of him and my aunt for some of the extended family. they have seen some of my photography, and like it. i have some skills, but portraits are probably my all out weakest subject. i do not have a studio, but am reasonably well equipped: nikon D70, kit lens, 50mm f2.8, 105mm f2.8 macro, nikon FE w/ 16mm, 28 mm, 50mm, and a 70-200 f3.5. I have a couple of flashes, and a small umbrella buried in storage.... help? I need basics, all I know isnot to use wide angle lenses, and soft lighting from one side or another, rather than head on. any suggestions would be appreciated. cam

Good morning, Cameron! I also have a D70 and use my 28-80mm for my portraits. It was my kit lens. I'm sounding like SUCH a broken record these days, but Debby Tabb here at BP is the woman to speak to. Check out the thread below on Portraits and Studio Lighting. I think you'll find it to be a big help and whatever hasn't been mentioned, feel free to ask! We're having SO much fun with it and would LOVE to have more people join in! http://www.betterphoto.com/forms/QnAdetail.php?threadID=17534 There's another thread on lighting, too at: http://www.betterphoto.com/forms/qnaDetail.php?threadID=16984 Hope all that helps and hope to see you in the threads! :)
