how to use fill flash

hi I have a sony cyber-shot v1 digital camera. I want to use fill-flash but I do not know how to set it to use fill flash. does anybody know how to set up fill flash for a sony camera?

there are two icons for flash. one has an arrow and another has an arrow with a plus. but that one is for using slow shutter speed to synchronize the lighting in the background so the back won't be dark.

i looked up fill flash in the manual but its not there! any help is appreciated! thanks!

Reading the manual (p. 26) there are two "forced flash" modes - lightning bolt and lightning bolt SL. The first fires the flash regardless of the ambient light.

The second is the Slow Sync mode, which also forces the flash to fire whether the ambient lighting is bright or dim. When the ambient lighting is dim it allows longer shutter speeds (requiring a tripod) to give even exposure to both the background and flash-lit subject.

It is not clear from the manual whether these modes are automatically adjust to be fill flash (usually with reduced output) when ambient lighting is bright. You'll just have to test it to see. If it's not automatic, there is also some amount of flash exposure compensation you can apply (High, Normal, Low) - see p. 58 "Adjusting The Flash Level."
