older canon lenses A friend who used to be into photography years ago gave me her old canon lenses. My camera is a canon 20d. Is there any way to use these older lenses on my camera, or would it even be worth the effort as they are probably 20 years old?

What kind of mount are the lenses? Are they EF (autofocus, and fit your 20D), or are they FD (manual focus, and don't fit the 20D)?

Sorry, I guess that would have been helpful to mention. They are FD and do not fit the 20d.

There are FD-lens-to-EOS-body adapters available, but they have severe limitations - manual focus of course but also limited to Av and M modes only with stop-down metering, and the adapters have optical elements that may lessen sharpness/contrast. Generally not worth the bother, except with a few specific telephoto or macro lenses. Canon's own converters (rare and expensive) are preferred over those by independent makers, though for macro use (with the optical elements removed) there's little difference. For more information see http://www.joe-chan.com/eosconverters.html, http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/fdeos.htm, and http://bobatkins.photo.net/photography/eosfaq/manual_focus_EOS.html.

I agree with Jon. The only FD lens I have hung onto is a very sharp macro lens, and I use a macro converter with it. It is a true macro lens, the kind where you rough focus by moving the camera in and out, then sharpen the last bit with the focus ring. I never had much luck with any of my other FD lenses. It is a bit of work, because of manually setting the shutter speed and f stop, but it is a wonderful lens.
