Digital Photos of City Lights from an Airplane

I enjoy taking aerial photos of cities and landscapes from airplanes. When I switched to a digital camera, my daytime shots got a lot better since I had more control and instant feedback. However my nighttime shots of city lights became impossible. Whenever I turn off the flash (necessary because of the reflection in the window), the camera automatically goes to a slow exposure. I cannot seem to trick my camera into taking a fast exposure picture to eliminate blurriness. This is especially a problem in the plane, which is not only moving, it is also usually vibrating.

  Which make/model camera?
If it is fully automatic with no manual override possible you might try activating the flash to get the faster shutter speed and simply cover the flash so that it does not glare/reflect on the glass.

It's a Nikon Coolpix 4300. It does have a manual override, but no apparent way to manually change the shutter speed. I've tried blocking the flash, with limited success - it ends the glare but enough diffused light leaks out that there are reflections on my side of the glass.

Per the user manual pp. 106-108 (available for download from http://www.nikon.com.sg/, click on "Tech Support"), the 4300 has manual exposure mode for setting both aperture and shutter speed.
