Photography contracts

Hello, After 5 years of photographing for a small magazine and photographing judges photos for small dog shows, I have been given the opportunity to take my skills to the next level. I have a dog club that would like to hire me for the next few shows. They would like a proposal and a contract. I have browsed the site and web and did not see anything that I think would work for me. Does anyone have a simple contract or form or whatever or can someone put me on the right track to find one. I do not have the money to hire an attorney to create such a document for me at this time.

I don't have a lot of experience writing proposals, but I would just suggest that you cover yourself from every possible angle. Clearly state what you will offer them and make sure not to leave room for question.

I have a contract that I would be happy to share with you. You may need to modify it if neccessary, but it will give you a starting place. I'll email you a copy of it.

I would also have plenty of model releases and property releases (for the dog) on hand and make sure to get people to sign them. This will allow you to use these photos to promote your business after the show. If you need those too, let me know. Freedom of the press varies greatly from photography as a business. For example, say you get a great shot of a prize winning dog and want to put it in a show or contest. The owner of the dog could cause a lot of problems for you if the dog is recognizable and you haven't been given written permission to use this photo. It is very important to have releases signed on the spot as it is often hard to track someone down after the event.

I'll get the contract mailed to you this evening. Hope this helps.

Liza

  Hi Liza,

Would you mind emailing that sample contract to me as well? I have a small photography business, but am trying to create an agreement that can be signed prior to the photo shoot that just covers the basics ... so the client knows what to expect.

Thanks!
Emily

  Hi Emily,

I would be happy to send you copy. I don't see a contact listed for you here in the Q & A. Please email me so that I will have your email address.

Sure Jen, no problem. I have received a lot of emails asking for a copy also and have been out of town and lost track of who I've sent them to. If I haven't gotten back to you yet, please let me know.

Ok gang, I need to call it quits for a while. I've been inundated with requests for contracts and business forms and am overwhelmed right now. I am working on some cds which I hope to have finished soon that will be for people just opening or are new in the photography business and should help everyone tremendously. If you are interested, please let me know, I am compiling a list and I will let you know when they are completed. I will go ahead fulfill all of the requests up to date. Just be patient with me. Thanks

-Liza-

I had to chuckle a little when I read Liza's last response! poor girl! I have a suggested web site for a contract form. Go to photo-seminars.com
once there ,go to Tips and Tricks. At the bottom of the page you will find portrait, model and wedding contracts.
Hope this helps everyone!

I actually went to www.nebs.com and requested a photographer's sample packet. They sent me two different things. One was for weddings. They gave me samples of all of their products for invoices, contracts, releases, more contrasts, a couple more contracts. Of course they are all samples but you can order from the obviously if you like them enough. I haven't opened the second package I got from them a couple days ago. I'll check it out tonight and let you guys know if it's of any importance.

Tammy Strebe   I realize this is an old thread, but we have a committee of dog photographers at our dog training club and members are now being asked to work at outside events. Does anyone have a copy of a contract for a dog show photographer that they would be willing to share with me?
