Photography Question

shooting an albino tiger

  portrait of Namasti

10 a.m. i used my kodak cx7430 it has a better macro lens and close up than the olympus
I was up above the tiger with the sun behind me and the best position I could find to shoot or i'd have to go over the wall and gone into his turf and i don't think he'd have gone for that.

  Namaste finally moving about
Namaste finally moving about
panaewa rainforest zoo, about 11 a.m.
I used the sports mode since i know how fast this fellow can move.
now I have 5 years of photo's of this guy and no matter what i do i can't change his colour because what you see is what you get, he's albino and we like him that way, but it can be a photographer"s nightmare
thanks. I really do love this site. others I've tried don't come close. I've met some very smug, rude people who shouldn't be critiqueing any one's work but their own.

I posted one shot of Namaste and I haven't heard any negative response to it in this forum, but I have from a friend and I thought i'd bring it to the experts. Like I mentioned, Namaste is our resident albino siberian tiger. no matter how good I think my shot is my friend alwas puts the photo down. would you look at a couple and give me some feed back.
PS I have a pinched nerve and the wrist I crushed last year will always look like crushed rock so I live with it, which in a way is better than surgery. as long as I can shoot photographs and hula that's all I care about. thanks for the support. anyone 50 out there....DON'T FALL.

Ok I think that my favorite one is the middle one, "Wakeing up Namaste". It's probably the one that comes closest to haveing the WOW factor. The bottom one I think would have been a really good photo if you could have gotten him facing you. And the top one is also just a good photo. So my advice is just keep shooting and I'm sure sooner or later you'll get one with the WOW factor.

Brendan
PS Sorry to hear about your wrist. But it doesn't look like it has hindered your abilities, as some of your photos can atest to.

  White tiger actually, not albino.
Adding the ps sounds like you want the pinched nerve to be taken into consideration for the pictures. They all look like a slightly out focus picture of a tv screen. They're all really fuzzy. Not a shooting through glass fuzzy, or even a blur fuzzy. That's probably why your friend didn't like them.

NO I DON'T WANT THE PINCHED NERVE TO DO ANYTHING, i'M A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER AND I DON'T NEED ANY EXCUSE FOR A FUZZY SHOT. I ASKED BECAUSE THE DON'T LOOK FUZZY TO ME. IF I'M NOT SEEING MY SUBJECT WELL ENOUGH THEN I NEED TO KNOW WHY AND HOW TO FIX IT. I WEAR TRI FOCALS AND I'M WONDERING IF THAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM OR IF MY EYES ARE JUST GETTING WEAKER.
AND WE WERE TOLD ALBINO BY THE DIRECTOR OF THE ZOO. EITHER WAY COULD THE FACT THAT HE IS WHITE MAKING IT HARDER TO SHOOT HIM PROPERLY?

THANKS Brandon, i'll keep trying. the doc says too much time with looking up to shoot a tree or bird's messing up my neck and then uploading and working at the puter all night on my photo's messed up my neck. I refuse to put my cameras away.

The composition on the the middle one is good. I agree that they do look a bit fuzzy. Maybe you could hsarpen them a little.

"anyone 50 out there....DON'T FALL." Too late. Well, I wasn't quite 50 when I did it but a few years ago, when I was 48, I was swinging on a Muscadine vine (southern grape), broke the vine and fell and broke my ankle. Darn thing still hurts when I walk on it a lot.

Mary Jo, I don't think it has anything to do with the tiger's color.

These pictures, and a few others in your gallery look out of focus. I like your compositions, and I think these would be very good photos if they were in focus.

A few questions: Are you using manual focus? Have you tried using autofocus? If these look in focus to you, then I think you should make an appointment with your eye doctor.

I'm not trying to criticize you in any way, really.

Another question - on one of the captions, you mention macro and close-up settings. Were you really close enough to the tiger to use macro or close up settings?

Sharpening isn't going to help. All caps response dosen't change that. If you need auto focus then that may be what you have to do. Or get a different pair of glasses for taking pictures if trifocals get in the way.

Hi Mary Jo!These Are Called White Siberian Tigers,(There Is Nothing Albino About Them}All The Pics Do Have Focus Issues,Does Your Camera Have A Diopter Adjustment? If So Put Your Camera On Autofocus And Let The Camera Find Focus Take Your Glasses Off Turn The Adj Until Things Look Clear To You Now You Can Shoot Without Your Glasses On,But Do See An Eye Doctor To Have Them Checked.
Also I Noticed The Exposure Is Off To The Point Where The Subject Is Blown Out,I Have Some Pics Of These In My Gallery That I Have Taken I Will Usually Spot Meter Off The White Or At Least a Center Weight Metering Mode I Try To Avoid Harsh Lighting Too,They Are Easily Overexposed,Most Of Us Just Try To Be Helpful I Hope You Dont Take These Suggestions The Wrong Way,Have A Great Evening!
