Photography Question

Bobbi S. Tomes

How do I get a foot in the door?

Everyone goes nuts over my portraits. They ask why I am not doing this for a living. All my friends, and friends of friends, and family want free or dirt cheep photos done by me. I have not gotten any response to flyers I have hung around town so far. Also, I dont have a "real" studio, I just shoot in my home, thiers, or outdoors. Not having a building does noit effect my pics but how can I get any real clients??? I am disscouraged.

Bobbi, in order for people to take you seriously, you need to charge seriously. I don't mean to sound rude, but if your doing all these "favors" you won't be able to get ahead. What I would do, is to research a local show, wedding photographers go to wedding shows, you should go to parenting shows (by shows, I mean conventions) and put the money in for a table or spot there and this way people will come to you, instead of you begging them for business. Hope this helps! Good luck and keep me posted.
