Photography Question

Architecture

I have been asked to take some shots of interiors and exteriors of some model homes (for a contest submission the builder is entering). While my lens is not bad (Canon 18-55 mm) I would like to know if anyone has suggestions for something better. I took sample shots with my Canon 300D, and they seemed to like them.

Also - would be interested in what market rates for assignments like this are (this is something new for me).

Thanks
John Tremblay

a faster lens would be nice. available light pics look great indoors. I took nice ones for a contractor with a P&S sony f2.0. also were pics my dad took with a Nikon d70, but this was a 12-24mm ED (similar to canon's L). The shots super wide were amazing! Those kinds of lenses are big money, but the wide-angles are necessary if the house isn't pretty big.
you should try to talk the contractor into an entire portfolio of his houses. I took pictures of a house where the owner had already moved in, but the owner was glad to do it and even had the cleaning company come that day. don't know what others charge but we charged $300 a house (mansion really) for about 5 houses (I worked only 2). if you can't get work with the contractor, he has friends. could work out for you to invest in some nice gear to be able to do the houses right.

ps: definitely get an external flash, maybe 2... if you use a tripod and it's not too bright outside, you can do decent available light...
