Photography Question

Kimberly C. Miner

entering a contest

Once again, I am trying to enter into several different contests/categories, landscape, travel, etc. I cannot find the link that lets me choose which category I want to enter my picture into.
I guess I need it spelled out. I thought I had it figured out yesterday, but I dont.

When you upload your photo it will ask if you want to put it in your gallery or just upload to the thread. Following that, it will ask you which category you wish to enter in the contest. It is all on the same page.

I just uploaded a photo. I was signed in. I clicked on upload photo, it asked me if I wanted to display or just download, but no where on the screen did it ask me which category.

OK, once you get to that screen, click on upload to gallery. The next screen asks for the name of the file (or lets you browse for it). Then it asks for any info you wish to include (right under the file name part). Then it asks for camera model. Right under that is the list of categories for the contest.

seriously. my screen has the "browse" , then the "title" below that, then "description" below that, camera model next, notification of discussion,
then terms and conditions. then the submit button. there is no category selection.
hmmmm. could it be only offered in the supreme package? I am really confused. thanks for your help!

Remember "one photo a day" rule for the contest.

You may upload as many photos you wish (if your gallery allows), but entering the contest, we are limited to one photo a day. You can enter 28, 29, 30, or 31 photos per month depending on what month.

  Hi Kimberly,

You won't see the contest category pull-down for today because the database has already recognized an entry for you for the day.

The database won't allow more than one entry per day. It will automatically omit the photo id field and also the category pulldown when it has already recognized has an image entry for the day.

Thanks,
Heather Young

Look again. It's there right under camera. See "Contest Category. It is between Camera and To be notified. It's for everybody. I'm not one of the Supremes - singers, Court or gallery - and I have that option.

Nobi and Heather, you entered your answer while I was typing mine. Since I have never entered the contest (at least I don't think I have), I was not aware of that. Even an old dog can learn something new.

thanks again. I was under the impression that I could enter all the category contests each day, but only one entry a day.
for example
one a day in landscape
one a day in people
one a day in monthly theme, etc.
Is the only contest going on this month the monthly theme? if so, then I finally understand.

  Hi Kimberly,

Thanks for your great interest in entering the contest. The contest rules state that you can only enter a given image into one category. You may not enter one image into multiple categories.

I am not wanting to enter the same photo into all categories. I want to enter a specific and different picture into each category/contest.

my last question, then I will leave you all alone.
Are you saying that there is only 1 contest per month? I was led to believe that there were several contests going on all at the same time.

  Hi Kimberly,

This site is a one big monthly contest site. There are 10 categories you can choose from to enter your photo but still one photo a day... and you may enter one every day of the month up to 31 photos...
As far as category is concenrned, spread your photos in different categories each month, so that your own photo would not compete against your own photo... although it's not always possible to spread out... for example, I take many flower images... and I do enter a few flower photos in the "flower" category...

I hope this helps...
Oh, one more thing... I said, this is a big contest site. I said that because over 17,000 or 18,000 entries are entered each month now, and you are competing against them...

  ps: :D
...finalists and winners are selected for each category, but it's still under one contest...
...I'm not sure this clears up your confusion... hmmm??? ...i hope it does...

okay. let me make sure I understand what you are saying. (by the way,....i have no idea why I am having such a hard time grasping this contest concept...i am not usually so challenged!!!)
better photo offers several contest/categories each day. you can enter 1 categorie/contest, per day, and each photo can only be entered once. correct?

  Hi Kimberly,

You know, logically speaking, what you said is not totally incorrect. But needs some clarification...

- Betterphoto's monthly contest offers 10 categories.
- you can enter one photo a day. And you must select a proper category for the photo.
(just foreget the part, "several contest/categories each day)
- each photo can be entered only once during that month. (it may be re-entered in the following month or any subsequent month)

Just thought I'd add a little more clarification to help you get away from the multiple contests / categories confusion.

The contest starts over each month.

There are always 9 categories available, plus a monthly theme category. This month it is "Scary Travel Photos". Last month it was Cats & Lions.

You can enter one photo each day, and you simply pick the category that best fits it.

Many finalists will be chosen from each category.

One First Place and several Second Place winners will be chosen from the finalists in each category.

One Grand Prize winner will be chosen from all of the finalists. This Grand Prize winner may be from any category. In April, the Grand Prize photo was from the Details & Macro category. In March, the Grand Prize photo was from the Digital Darkroom category.

Does this help?

Good Luck!!!

Please verify for me that one photo per day = one photo every 24hrs.
I entered a pic yesterday evening, trien entering another today but as with Kimberly the photo category is not displayed.
It has not yet been 24 hrs since my last entry, although it is the next day.
Maybe the writers of this website should change their terminology to one entry per 24hrs!!!

Tracy

One a day, not one every 24 hours.
Just be aware that this site goes by the Pacific timezone of the U.S.

So, where I am, the day does not turn until 2:00a.m., not at 12:00 midnight..
So, if I stay up late at night, I can submit two photos in the contest within a few minutes as long as one before 2:00am and another after 2:00a.m.

I have had a deluxe web site for several years, yet I cannot seem to find any link to upload images to the contest.

I've got an Imac, if that makes any difference.
