Photography Vibes

I received an email today saying that one of my photos was selected to be in the Photography Vibes book series. Can someone please tell me if Photography Vibes is just another scam like picture.com or is it worth looking into?

They pay you for rights to print/publish your photo - real.
You pay them for the "privilege" - scam.

With all respect, do you even have to ask?

Jamie, read the string "International Society of Photographers" to get the real story behind this kind of scam. Avoid at all costs.

  Jamie,
just for the fun of it I would respond to them by asking if they were interested in a royalty free licsense or exclusive rights for a predetermined time ie 12 months. And let them know you would be happy to give them a price once you know what licsense they are looking for......Tony S

Jon Close got it exactly right! They should pay YOU for the privelege of publishing YOUR photograph.

If you want to do it properly . . . for book publication . . . send them a table showing royalty fee.

Across the top should be columns for size:
1/4 page (or smaller), 1/2 page, full page, 2-pg spread, and cover

Down the side should be maximum quantity in print run:
Up to 20k, 60k, 100k, 250k, 500k

Add statement after table to cover successive editions as % of fees in table (based on size and print run). Usually its a modest price break.

This is the type of arrangement I have with McGraw-Hill for their use of my photographs. Real book publishers have something similar . . . based on size of page (or cover) and quantity to be printed. What ILP does is called "Vanity Press" wherein you pay them to publish your work(s) and the sole market for the publication is to those that have their work(s) appearing in it.
