red eye Hi...I am an amateur and love taking photos of my 1 year old son. However, I get red eyes in most of the pics. I use a Canon Zoom XL and use 200 speed or 400 speed film. I usually leave the automatic flash setting on so it will flash if needed. Is there anything I can do to help prevent the red eyes? Thanks.

Kelli, the problem that you are having is caused by the flash reflecting off of the back of your son's eyes. The film doesn't enter into the problem. There are too ways to deal with the problem inexpensively. One, turn off the flash and take the pictures either outside in good light, or indoors with enough lights on to avoid triggering the flash. There is a danger in doing this of having the tungsten lights causing the picture to be "orangish" or yellow. The other option is try having someone beside you catch the little guy's attention so that he isn't looking directly into the camera flash. If all else fails you can buy an inexpensive "red eyes" pen and color in the pictures by hand.

you could also use bounce flash off the ceiling or get a flash bracket for your hot shoe which will allow you to raise your flash off the film plane[area],which will also stop red eye
