Photography Question

flash brackets

i just bought a canon 20d and now have to get the 580ex. my question is what is the best bracket to get the flash off the camera? How high should the flash be? how high is to high? I know I want the bracket that flips-because I take alot of veritcal shots...is one brand way better than another? or are they all about the same? and, what's better, a pc cord or a hot shoe cord to connect the flash and the camera? Sorry about all the questions, but I have my first paying wedding coming up soon, and I guess i'm freaking out a little....
thanks for any help....
Connie

hey connie, I have a digital rebel and a sigma flash and use a Stroboframe Quick Flip.

I really love it, but wish I would have bought the Stroboframe Camera Flip instead:

You want to buy an off camera shoe cord:

With the off camera shoe cord and Quick flip I have gotten great results!

  Great minds think alike, Mel.

I also bought the Stroboframe Quick Flip for my Digital Rebel, and I also wish I would have gotten the Camera Flip instead. The Quick Flip is great, and use it a lot, I just think the Camera Flip looks easier.

Be sure to get the Canon brand shoe cord #2 from Mel's link above. I went to one shop that was out of them, and the guy there tried to sell me a generic one. I've read that you'll only get the full E-TTL II functionality of the flash if you use the Canon cord. That might just be Canon propaganda, but I didn't take any chances.

thank-you Mel and Chris so much! that's excatly what I was looking for! I think I will try the camera flip, i'll let ya know how it is... and thanks for the cord tip, it could be canon props, but why take the chance, right?

thanks again!

Yes, these are next on my "to purchase" list!!!!

I'll have to remember these! I wonder if I can get them in Australia though? The good thing is that I know you have both tried them and both have Canons! I just bought myself the new Canon Digital Rebel XT - it is being shipped from Canada - I can't wait!

  Nat,
Have you ordered anything from B&H Photo before? I don't know how much they charge for shipping to Australia, but I know the price for these items at my local camera shop is more than the B&H price + shipping.

If you have time, check it out and compare before you buy.
