What are the Main Styles of Portraiture? Could anyone direct me to a resource or two that discuss the principal styles of portrait photography? I realize that portrature ranges over an enormous spectrum from passport pictures to fine art; from realism to impressionism, from glamour to "warts and all" work; from monotonal to full color; from single individuals to groups; head shots to head to toe; etc. What would be of use to me are discussions of the main clusters of styles, identifying their distinctive features, preferable with examples. Online would be great, but books are fine too.

Visit Monte Zucker's website (sorry, I don't have it at the moment, but do a google). Read every word he has written. He discusses in detail various principles of posing and lighting. And he's as good as it gets. Michael H. Cothran www.mhcphoto.net

You can also look at one of the Kodak books on Portraiture. in these, there are diagrams showing lighting placement as well as sketches showing "butterfly," Rembrandt, and all the other lighting modes. I agree with Michael, Monte Zucker is a premier protrait photographer. I'm concerned that the web doesn't give you the flexibility of holding a book and checking out [comparing] the lighting effects.
