Groom with bald head I have a wedding coming up May 14, 2005. I did meet with the future bride and groom. My situation is the groom has no hair. Any tips on taking the groom without showing a glow on his forehead. I will be using a Metz 60ct-4 flash. Help! MaryAnn

Well MaryAnn, I suppose it's better that the groom has no hair rather than the bride. There are a few things you can do in this situation. First, you could recommend a stocking cap or a watch cap. You could also try some anti-flash cream. Both are available at military surplus stores. Call Steve at the photo dept. at B&H in NY and ask him if they carry the Chrome Dome by Light Dome modifier. Last, depending on the groom's exact hair situation (or lack thereof) ask him to try Preparation H. Yep, it's the stuff used to treat hemorrhoids. I understand it doesn't grow hair but in some cases will shrink the scalp to fit the ones you've got. Failing all those solutions, make-up powder and diffused flash.

I like all of Mark's answers but the one I like the best is diffused flash. I use a mini softbox and it works well. I may try the Preparation H to cover the balding spot on the back of my head.

Yeah Kerry, I've got one of those too. But you know what they say: "Grass doesn't grow on a busy street." :>)

Maryann, are you lucky or what? The May issue of Popular Photography & Imaging magazine has a section titled "Extreme Makeover" that teaches techniques to handle situations like the one your described. It should be publicly available next week.
