photo purchase with deluxe websites I really want to purchase a deluxe website sometime in the near future and I've been thinking about the photo purchasing option. (so that other people can buy your photos) and my question is for those who have that option on your site, do you ever get people who buy photos? And what about the copyright? Do you have a copyright symbol on your photos? I'm so new to this!!! Thanks!

Jennifer, Do you really need to ask?? There's a gazillion photographers online, all having 'for sale' signs on their images. There are a lot more photographers selling than there are people buying. Selling online as an unknown artist is pretty much a waste of time and cyberspace. But it's nice having your own website, so I'd go for it. Just don't expect the buying public to beat down your door. If your intent is to sell, you'd have better luck standing on a street corner, in a deserted town, in the middle of the night. These websites are pretty much visited by friends and family, and other BP photographers just like you. And I wouldn't be too concerned with the copyright symbol. If your images are sized correctly @ 72 ppi, no one will be able to do anything with them. BP has a nice statement that they provide on your site pertaining to copyright infringements, and that's all you really need. I don't mean to sound too discouraging, or burst too many bubbles, but come on - you'll be another grain of sand in Death Valley. Sure, someone may discover you, and actually want to buy an image, but what do you think the real chances of that are?? Get the site, and enjoy posting in your "personal" area, but if you want to sell, try other forms of marketing to start with. Michael H. Cothran www.mhcphoto.net

Thanks Michael. No Im not wanting a website merely for the "for sale" option, I was just wondering if it's worth paying the money to have it, and if anyone who has the option has sold anything by having it. I don't intend on having it a "money-maker", I know it's a long shot. Just curious, that's all.

Jennifer, Get the Site,...and use it as your marketing tool, but only AFTER you've made contacts through other venues...(business cards, phone calls, personal contact,...etc.) As Michael mentioned, we're all tiny fish in a big pond, and none of us is expecting our Web Site to attract business on its own. You can always add a page for "Sales Information"..(or whatever you want to call it), and detail instuctions for a potential buyer to use the "Contact" link for terms and pricing. This will be enough for a really motivated buyer to get in touch with you for that perfect image they must have. Later on,...if you've gotten a few "nibbles",...then upgrade to the Image Sales Option for a year and see if it pans out.
