Memory Key

Can someone explain to me how these memory key things are suppose to work? I know they are used for transferring information off your camera, but I can't find a clear explanation about how they work mechanically and if my camera can use something like that.

Here's a link to a memory key I've been looking at.

And PLEASE feel free to use "idiot" terminology! You will not offend me.

Thank you!!

It is just a mini storage device that you plug it into a USB port to download data onto it. The other end has a hole that you can attach it on your key chain. Similar to something called memory pen that one end you use it like a regular pen and the other end you plug into a USB port.

So, if my camara does not have a USB port then something like this wouldn't work?

I think this is more likely for the computers or other equipment that has a USB port.
