I have just started my own business to, but at the moment can't afford the expense of a studio, so I cheat!

I take most of my photos outdoors, and the indoor photos, as long as I have a white wall and ceiling, the photos turn out great with a little bounce flash. My photos are usually very close up anyway, so you can't really see where they are sitting etc.

Hope that helps, but sorry, don't have any prices on studio equipment. I would wait until you start making some money and buy it slowly.

  Kayleigh,
First, the only things you would "really want" are lots of rich customers ready to give you all their money for your product, and...the best equipment money can buy. This is what we all want! What you end up with will probably be a little shorter on the take.
First, you've got to identify your target market. Who will you customers be? Then, do a lot of research into demographics to be able to find them, and learn as much as you can about marketing and advertising, so that once you find them, you'll be able to sell them on your product. Marketing skills is the key ingredient to ANY business. Don't falter here, or you're dead in the water.
Then when it comes to equipment, buy the best you can, and learn how to use it. Spend many hours, days, weeks, months, and years putting everything together. Take as many classes and seminars as you can, find as many free clients as you can to practice on, read everything at the book store, and everything you can find on the internet. Hone your people skills, your creative skills, and your technical skills. And, when you learn how to "make it just perfect," please remember the rest of us struggling photographers, and write a book that we can all buy, so that we can all make it perfect too.
Good luck,
Michael H. Cothran

  Hi Kayleigh.
What are the professional credentials you have to open a studio?
Do you own a camera?
A little more information would be helpful in order to construct a helpful answer to your question.
Regards
Gary

  Michael,
I just loved your answer so much I had to respond. You are so right on target! I also feel that with any business make sure you have 'something to sell' take pride in it, do your research, work hard, & market market market. Always remember to give back to society in the end. Great info!
