Getting a purple haze where light meets dark

Where there is a dark subject against a light background I get a purple haze, see here:

are there any filters that I can use or settings that I can change to eliminate this? Thank you

  Chromatic Aberration and "blooming".

I don't think there's a filter that would fix your particular picture. A split neutral density filter can help in scenes where there is a bright dividing line between earth and sky. Otherwise you need to be aware and either avoid such high contrast situations, or correct it in post processing.

I agree with Jon C's assessment.
I doubt if there are filters or settings which will correct this.
Looks like a deficiency in lens design.

Purple Haze? Where is Jimi Hendrix when you need him?

Again, I apologize for my ignorance, but how would I go about correcting this isn post processing. Thank you all for your answers.

I don't do enough digital photography to explain it. I just know it can be corrected. Do a web search on "correcting chromatic aberration".

Hey Spencer. I wanted to see if what I thought was right so I went ahead and did it. Hopefully the pic will post, but I tried to get rid of the purple haze around the outside of the leaves and such.
I used Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and selected the general area that had the purple with the lasso tool. The polygonal lasso tool to be specific but the regular lasso would have worked fine. After I had a large section that contained purple, I went to Image>Adjustmens>Replace Color. When I got there I initially clicked on the plain white dropper/color selector tool that doesn't have the (+) or (-) by it and clicked on the largest patch of purple I could find. Then I selected the (+) dropper and clicked various other shades of purple I could find. Then I selected the (-) dropper and clicked everything that wasn't purple such as the tree bark and some of the leaves. After I had as much purple selected as I wanted, I used the Lightness slider at the bottom to make the leaves and such darker so they matched the others. Sometimes when there were leaves in the top left that still needed an orange/red color, I moved the Hue slider to match the color or pick one that looks good. I hope I got everything. Feel free to contact me.
