Help- What equip. do I need for this shoot?

Ok I am a college student that just agreeded to shot portraits for a society outing. The theme is 50's diner. Here's the rub: I have a Minolta Maxxum 70 and I am very familiar and comforable shooting with it. I also have an old-school ST 101 with a nice fast 1.7 lens. This whole thing is going to be one of those "on location Prom sytle set-ups" and I just need help knowing what I am going to need.
This I DO know: I will be shooting TMax 400 true B+W so the fluorescent lights will not be a problem. What I NEED to know: 1. What type of background/backdrop to use. 2. What am I doing for lighting? I have a flash but it is a basic Maxxum 2800 flash so...not good right? 3. I have considered using a high speed film (1600) for that "old photo grainyness look" is this a good idea? The people in charge would not mind this effect.

I do have some time to prepare for this but ANY advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank You
