Getting true color in low light

Need some advise about getting true color in low light situatios. Was advised to use a tungsten filter.

Situation: I'm shooting actors in motion on a lit stage and I'm in the total dark.

Camera: I'm shooting a sony F-717, and would also like to know if any filter will fit this camera. Thanxs

Ronnie - Read your camera manual to see if you can create a custom white balance. If so, just follow the instructions with your stage light, and you should be well within the ball park, colorwise.
Unless your camera has no white balance function, you don't need, or want, to mess with color correction filters on a digital camera.

A color correcting filter will cost 1-2 stops of light. Better with a digital camera is to set the white balance for the type of lighting. Then you can maintain a lower ISO for lower "noise."

"Auto" may give you the correct color balance. Otherwise, for stage lights set for "Incandescent" or use the "One Touch" custom setting (pp. 54-55 of the F-717's manual).

The other typical problem is that the stage performers are typically light pretty brightly, but the stage and background are much darker. This will lead the centerweighted and multi-segment metering programs to overexpose the performer. Use Spot metering on the performer to set exposure (pp. 51).
