studio lights

What is the differnece between mono lights and slave lights?

Umbrella reflector vs umbrellas?

I was looking at this kit that only has 1 mono light and a slave light, plus 1umbrella reflector and one umbrella.

I need a descent studio lighting kit.

A monolight is a studio strobe light with the power pack built in, thus giving you everything in a single entity. A slave is a light sensor, which is probably built in to your strobe, which fires your flash remotely, when another flash is fired.
You've got me with 'umbrella reflector'. I can only guess that maybe it's some sort of flat reflector as opposed to an umbrella, and would be used in conjunction with your lights to act as a reflector to bounce light to the dark side of your subject. Your strobe would fire into the umbrella. The reflector would be positioned where it would best reflect some of the strobe light back to the other side of your subject.
