which filter for shooting christmas lights

I would like to know what is the best filter to use for shooting christmas lights at night. I took some pics of my own lights last year, and they have that orange hue. I will be shooting with a Maxxum 7 with a Tamron 28-300 lense.

Thanks
Ray

A blue 80-A filter will correct this color shift but will require more exposure.

Christmas lights use tungsten filaments with the lower color temperature of ~3200°K (independent of the glass bulb color) typical of incandescent lights. Thus daylight film (balanced for ~5500°K) takes on the yellowish cast. Use an 80A filter with daylight film, or use tungsten balanced film such as Kodak Portra 100T.
