You can purchase a nice portfolio/presentation/display book at most photography shops. Itoya makes a nice one. That are like a high-end soft cover notebook, only these are not 3-ring binders but books. They have about 28 plastic sleeves, place your 8x10 image on the right side and title, medium, and description on the opposite left side. Black sheets of paper for mounting images & writen text are very nice. Good luck

YOu can run out to the store and by the first black plastic page book you can find. (so will everyone else apply to your college) I have been a commercial photographer for 5 years. I I have shown my book to agencies in US Canada, Japan, France. Most of these agencies I have never met the person and sometimes never meet them. My book is all they see, Images, pages, presentation etc. Your book is the most important thing for you. Its your first impression as a photographer (sometimes your only impression) When I first started out, I limited my pictures to 12. 12 of my best images, 12 images that made my book tell the person a story about how I think and how I create. Make sure the book flows, and there is now limit to what you can do. (I made my first book from wood and leather straps.) Now I have a more sterle style of shooting so I have a metal book with a very clincal look.

IT'S ALL 'BOUT THE WORK!!! You can have a spectacular portfolio book, but it your work is crappy, it won't matter how wonderful your book looks. Personally, I have a simple black portfolio that fits 8x10 prints. The book itself is plain, but the work speaks for itself. I also have a small 8x6 photo album that I carry around with me for last-minute-on-the- spot presentations. I've taken that book with me on interviews and have gotten assignments or jobs because of the work inside, not the book. So, focus on whats on the inside. Nevertheless, you should also present your work in the most professional manner.
